Priority Mail Flat-Rate Box Proposed

Question
Cost is $7.70.
Two box sizes:
1) 14” x 12” x 3.5” or
2) 11.25” x 8.75” x 6”
The dimensions are new and don't fit any of the current Priority boxes you can order from the USPS store.
So, what does this mean?
Flat Rate is less expensive if:
1) Package is 3 lbs to Zone 7+ (i.e. 7,8)
2) Package is 4 lbs to Zone 5+
3) Package is 5 to 8 lbs to Zone 4+
4) Package is 9 lbs or more.

Answer
Interesting! Right now UPS is getting all my business for packages 2# and above. These new box sizes MAY put the USPS in the running on some of them--will have to see--but with UPS's insurance included, they are still tough to beat (I have a daily pick-up rate).

Answer
2# and above? For me, I find 3# and above is cheaper. If post office takes the price down to $5.75 they would get my business, but $7.70 is too high for me.

Answer
Those are pretty big boxes. If the boxes are free, it will make a major dent in UPS and FedEx. It will also make life a lot easier for some eBay sellers. Flat rate option is now possible to all 50 states.

Answer
Oops--you're right, my bad! I should've said above 2#. BUT, there are many cases where I do send 2# packages via UPS when the difference isn't so great, I'll eat it for the convenience of having the package picked up instead of lugging it myself to the p.o.

Answer
Would be help ful to me. I sell quite a bit to CA from NC andshipping is often 10.00 or more. I don't do UPS

Answer
It would be a wonderful change for me. I have inventory of some particularly dense but sturdy items that on some quick measurement look like they could go 7-11 Lbs in one of those boxes. Not even the furthest distance now is like $19 for 10 Lbs Priority. I'm in the habit of using USPS, too. This would let me simplify rate quotes and list items that I've just had gathering dust since the last rate hikes.

Answer
I'm really glad some of you can take advantage of this proposed flat rate if it is approved. Does any of you work for the post office? I'm curious to know if there is an upper weight limit.

Answer
I don't work for the PO, although my DH has accused me of wanting to live there. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif
I have really nice posties and many days I'll take in just one little package that would have fit in the box, just to visit.
Good Grief, I need a life. LOL
