Credit Card Processing ?

Question
Need some suggestions for credit card processing services for our webiste/ebay sales other than Paypal. We will still continue to use Paypal, but wanted to know if there is another service that is just as good/better cost-wise an/or in terms of customer service.
I won't be needing international service.
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Better cost? Its hard to beat the rates for Paypal. Merchant accounts have their advantages, but many typically have fixed monthly costs with minimums. Other services people may suggest here is 2checkout.com and ProPay.com

Answer
Our merchant account is cheaper than paypal, and I think most are.
With that said, you have to really look at ALL of the hidden fees, and calculate that in to the equation. The amount of transactions that you do a month will of course effect the end cost.
Some merchant accounts will tie into your website grocery carts automatically.
If most of your transactions are internet based (as ours are) you do get hit with a higher fee.
There are a LOT of companies. Do a search on "merchant account", look at the options, and figure out what you need.
Good luck

Answer
I use a First Data reseller. I got the account through my bank. My rates are pretty much the same as PayPal, no big surcharge for internet transactions or for the payment gateway.
If you're small volume, American Express has a heck of a deal -- a $5.00 per month flat-fee plan if your American Express charges are under $5,000 per year.

quote:
Flat Fee - Eligible merchants pay a monthly flat fee of $5, with no additional charges. Unlike the discount rate pricing plan, you do not pay an amount for each American Express sale. Businesses must have less than $5,000 in annual American Express sales, and submit, authorize, and receive payments electronically to be eligible for this plan.

http://2checkout.com/
Sort of expensive, but seeminly well established and well accepted.

Answer
After many, many years with 2Checkout.com I finally could not justify the cost of doing business with them. Initially, I did not do enough volume to justify the cost of a merchant account. But now that I sell enough from the web store, I will save $200 each month just in credit card processing fee.
2Checkout was very good to me. But if your business starts to grow, you will benefit by getting a real merchant account.
