Question
Would you buy from someone with PRIVATE FEEDBACK?
Answer
Yes, provided that it was a reasonably high number and contained no negatives or neutrals. If there were negatives/neutrals, I would consider it relation to the total number of feedback left......
Cheers, Kevin
Answer
NO, As a general rule, I would not buy from someone with private feedback.

Answer
I would, but they would have to have darn good numbers, if I can't read it. While I very well might buy from someone with 98.5 % positives if I can read the comments and see if they just had to deal with a few nut cases, I wouldn't if the comments were hid.
Answer
Don't buy from anyone with private feedback or hide bidders.
Answer
Not too likely. I guess it would depend on how much I wanted what they were selling.
Why would anyone hide their feedback anyway. I don't understand.
Answer
depends on the numbers of course
some sellers hide it to protect their customers from spam and soliciting, I for one appreciate it on a few things I purchase on line
I don't want no freaks sending me solicitations and spam.

Answer
I am thinking that we are mixing two different issues...private feedback and private auctions.
I would never buy from anyone with private feedback. What'cha hiding there, bub? Ton 'O Negs?
But, I've had thoughts of running private auctions before although I never have. I watch one VERY successful seller in one of my areas who has nothing but private auctions. She switched over some time ago after a couple of her items went very high. She has never mentioned anything about it in her auctions, but I wonder what she tells her bidders. I think she went private to keep bottomfeeders from emailing her bidders with offers of same or similar items. It does not appear to have hurt her bottom line one bit...same killer stuff, same killer prices.
What made me bring this up is that I was researching curtain tie backs as I've got a pair to sell and ran across this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63546&item=3716737 467&rd=1
She fires off both barrels before she even says one word about the item she's selling. A little touchy, aren't we? And, I love how she got top dollar for her shaker "deservingly it brought $200+ in bidding" but is p!ssed when at a later auction where she's buying a similar shaker "was at over $100 before I could raise my card." apparently, she's the only auctioneer who's entitled to a nice profit! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_rolleyes.gif
I definitely understand the part about not wanting people following your buying habits and it's a good point about bottomfeeders contacting your bidders. On the other side of the coin, shill bidding would be impossible to catch.
Just wondering what y'all thought.
Answer
I often find that sellers which hides bidders are selling repros.
The shilling issue can be avoided via sniping.
