Continuing Saga on Palm Beach's easydropoff

Question
Looks like the young man got someone to bite at a $40 shipping charge and then couldn't package it well enough to keep from receiving a neg.
He has a couple of items that I might be interested in if we could come to some agreement about shipping costs/combining wins. I wrote him several days ago asking if it was possible and he did not answer.
I give him a few more months but only because it will take that long for eBay to kick him off again.

Answer
Yeah, I had seen that auction while it was running and was surprised to see that it sold. I notice that he has now gotten photo size under control (even though the lighting is still soooooooo tragic), but he must be pulling those shipping figures outta his azz.
If he is actually getting $20 per listing and 30% of completed auctions he is doing well though – over $10,000 in listing fees alone in the last 30 days. Of course, I have no idea what his overhead is – I may be doing better.
I still don't understand some of the pricing strategies going on here – why someone would pay $20 to have a common item listed for $1-2. And why a seller with this pricing structure would list an item that would sell for less than around $67 – which is where the 30% of sell price would exceed the $20 listing fee.
BTW - HERE is a bidder on one of easydropoff's items. Looks like a pretty avid bidder to have registered on April 15th. Wish I could get bidders like that on MY auctions (especially if they paid!)

Answer
This is an old thread (from Apr-20-04) that I'm posting a follow-up on. It was actually a follow-up to a thread that I originally posted Mar-04-04: That one sort of evolved along a couple of different story lines.
I had noticed that the auctions really dwindled for easydropoff, and today I noticed that they have changed their eBay name to and appear to be focusing on Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). These seem to be the same units sold by out of Boulder Junction, WI.
(AED Superstore – aedsuperstar – sort of like: toMAYto – toMAHto)
I'm not sure what happened to the drop-off business model, but apparently it really dropped off. If only the Lost Jimi Hendrix Song had sold for $3,000,000.00 maybe things would have worked out a bit differently.
I noticed that early on all the negative feedback were converted to neutrals as they must have engaged SquareTrade to have them resolved. Then they started to pile up and there were around 20 that were mutually withdrawn, and now the negs are just standing.
Kind of interesting to see how this business has gone from its inception a couple of years ago.

Answer
2067 feedback received by aedsuperstar (21 ratings mutually withdrawn)
looks like they are giving square trade nice business getting their negs removed

I read the first post, and followed the link before I realised that this was an old thread. That said, I think it takes skill to earn the following neutral:
"I had a postage due slip for $2.50 after paying $12.50 shipping for a 1 oz. item"
Cheers, Kevin

Answer
Sorry Kevin, I couldn't get my disclaimer ("This is an old thread (from Apr-20-04) that I'm posting a follow-up on") in until post #3.
And yes, I saw that neutral too -
I never could understand how they could be listing dreck for $1 initial bid when they charged a $20 upfront fee to list an item.
eBay must be pretty proud of the relationship though: they posted about them on the Discussion Boards > Trading Assistant > Discussion > TA Press Coverage - South Florida Sun Sentinel News

Cheers, Kevin Maybe it was an ounce of gold
I like the ties one. Buyer bought four ties in four seperate auctions. It is $30 each or $120. Shipping was not combined and was $8 each. So for $32 shipping, one would think the seller will at least pack it nicely. Buyer complains ties were jammed together.
eBay really need more sellers like this.

He has a whole of 2 items listed right now. But look at THIS. He has a price of $1199.00 in the title, but it's basically a fixed price at $1495.00. Who's going to overpay by $300.00? I think he's a couple of cans short, if you know what I mean. And what's the point of having an opening bid and BIN price the same, why wouldn't you just make it fixed then?

Answer
OR...
you could just buy your Philips HeartStart OnSite from instead of "aedsuperstar" for only $1,195.00. Plus, instead of UPS shipping for $50.00 it will probably be charged at the actual rate.
But then, maybe aedsuperstar can charge more because they are offering BOTH a Philips HeartStart OnSite AND an IQ test.
