Taking Our Unwanted to an Auction House

Question
For the past 4-5 years we have been taking our unwanted items to Goodwill, obtaining a receipt for tax purposes, turning it in to our accountant and we take a deduction on our taxes.
Our accountant has decided that we need to be more specific and supply a more itemized list of what was donated. In all fairness, she said it did not have to be itemized to each specific items (i.e. first edition copy of War and Peace) but more of a general (i.e. 12 old books). After doing the math, we decided that our time to keep this ongoing list was going to probably cost more than the benefit of the tax write-off.
We approached our favorite auctioneer about bringing him our box lots and we struck a deal! Not only will he take our box lots but he said he would go through them and auction individual pieces that he felt would bring more than $5.
Many of the items we have been taking to Goodwill are very auctionable. A sample of what is in the box beside my desk now is two newer oil lamps, a milk glass electric lamp (works), a Churchill Blue Willow butter dish and lid with a tiny chip, a couple of Shawnee and McCoy pieces with a chip and a pair of brass goblets in a presentation case.
We are optimistic that this will be a win/win for both us and the auctioneer.

Answer
That's what we've been doing also for the past 3 years..sometimes we get 4 or 500.00 for a load and sometimes a lot less than that but at least we get rid of it.
Since we quit going to flea markets we don't have an outlet for the stuff other than auctions.
Rummage sales take time to set up that can be better spent looking for new merchandise.

I have an old guy who runs a junk store on the mainland. I call him up and he'll come over and take almost anything. He doesn't pay much, but I can take some money, and also trade for things he has (sometimes he has a very saleable piece but not often).
It just feels so good to get rid of stuff sometimes, doesn't it!?

It just keeps accumulating, doesn't it? http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif
I used to give my "leftovers" to my parents, who would take them to the flea market. However, they are just getting too old to fool with these kind of items. They have no idea what they are worth and my dad would rather sell socks and t-shirts. My mother's health appears to be failing somewhat and I don't want her to be dealing with the heavier stuff. I might give her any jewelry if she is interested.
I have my mall booth and have rented a small $35/month showcase in another mall that starts tomorrow.
Sometimes I think we are all just shuffling jun...treasures to one another.

Answer
took my fourth truckload last week, it feels good to have space to fill up again, have no clue what we'll get for it, but no yard sales for me anymore they are too stressful.

Answer
My dad just told me that I can just bring it to the 450 Mile Yard Sale. Thanks, Dad, but I'm not sitting on the side of the road for two weeks like I did last year. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif This is a better (and probably more profitable) solution.

Answer
i take a couple of loads a year...it feels great to get money for stuff i was too lazy to fool with!
