Question
Do you think there'll be a listing promo this week?
Or will they let it ride until the end of the next quarter?
Elaine
Answer
I'm hoping for a Penny Gallery this month. There's usually one ever month, and occasionally once every second month.
Last June, a couple of weeks prior to eBay Live there was a half-price promotion for fixed price listings. I hope they do that again this June.
Answer
With store listings now showing up in some searches, I expect the auction counts to continue to drop. If that does happen, what is ebay going to do to make up for the lost listing fees?
Answer
Last year the number of listings stayed in a narrow range hovering around 9.5 listings from March to August, except for a very brief spike in June due to the 50% off fixed price auction promotion.
Right now the count is around 11.5 million listings. I imagine the count will remain in a band of between 11 million and 12 million listings until August.

You do also have to allow for Easter. I can't work out how much of a holiday it is in North America (I doubt I will ever see an auction held on Good Friday in Australia, but they are held in North America to a small extent according to the Live Auction thread). Easter is the second major holiday here, and I believe in most of Europe, that must have some effect on listings. I currently have no listings for the first time in 18 months or so, because of both Easter, and Tax Day in the USA, which produced abysmal results last year (for the first time in about 4 or 5 years). While I am wound down, I am also going to take off for a couple of weeks on a "buying trip" (aka vacation). I don't think that I am the norm in this aspect, but I suspect I am not the only person who has wound down listings for Easter and/or Tax Day this year. This *may* have some effect on the overall numbers, and may just mean a temporary dip in numbers of listings.
