One of those Thorn in the Shoe ebay sales. Wah.

Question
It started with an email regarding a pair of shoes I had listed.
"how much is your buy it now price? i'm going on a trip and i don't have time to wait and bid. i'll pay immediately thru pay-pal if you give me a fair price for these shoes"
in which I replied: "Hi, sorry, this isn't a Buy it Now auction - just a regular old fashioned bid auction. Feel free to place a bid and good luck"
Buyer replied "How about if I offer you $25.00 plus shipping cost? I'm leaving on Friday and I was thinking of giving them to my brother as a gift."
I then looked at his feedback, as I figured I was dealing with a newbie, but no, I was not - he had many feedback(s) and also had purchased another pair of these shoes in a different size recently.
I replied: "I don't close auctions and sell to people under the table. Sorry. There is a bid on the shoes now. If you would like to put in a bid and arrange for me to ship them to your brother, I will gladly do that. thanks."
Well I sat back and hoped he'd get outbid, but he didn't. I sent an invoice and he paid immediately. I left him feedback tonight. Unfortunately I didn't notice until just now that he paid for the AUCTION PRICE and didn't include the shipping.
I guess I'm just venting, but what steams me is that I tried to play by the rules, and now I have jacked myself because I'll be paying a Pay Pal fee for both the 1st payment and also if he pays the difference - and I can't help but thinking he did this on purpose....
Am I http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_rolleyes.gif jaded? I hate to think the worst of people but argggggh.

Answer
Bit of advice.
Screw eBay. One good turn deserves another.
Never be afraid to complete deals offsite.
Never had a deadbeat that way either.

Answer
- sigh -

Answer
good luck cheezy
don't you just hate it when you know you're being jerked and can't do anything about it.

Answer
thank you.
I just don't understand saying "screw ebay" - I was supposed to cancel the real bid and sell off line to someone who was dictating how I should run the auction? That doesn't seem fair....and the "trip" that he went on was so long and he couldn't wait until it was over, yet he was back to pay the next day?

Answer
Purecheese, couldn't you just refund the Paypal payment and request the correct amount?
I never hesitate to do that when someone either sends the wrong amount or sends it to the wrong Paypal address. (I have two)
It's always worked out OK. I don't mind the extra little bit of work to get the amount I'm owed.

Answer
Guess I was too tired to think of that.
He hasn't replied to my request for the difference, so I guess I'll refund and ask for the correct amount. Thanks...

Answer
purecheez, I recently had a buyer who eventually ended up winning more than one of my auctions. She was so excited over the first one that she paid immediately with PP and left out the shipping costs.
In the meantime, she won another auction so when I refunded her money I also took the time to issue her an invoice for the combined wins with combined shipping.
No sooner than I had done that, she sent me a PP payment for the second auction, again minus the shipping. I then refund the second payment and she finally paid the combined invoice.
If someone sends me the wrong PP amount, I always refund and then invoice them for the correct amount. I would say it works 99% of the time. Good luck!

Ditto.

Answer
Well, here's an update on the thorn in shoe sale...
I refunded the amount the buyer sent me. No reply. I have sent 2 emails, one invoice, etc. and have not received any reply (at all) except the one initial payment with no shipping incl. I also sent an email through the auction page (in case of server issues)... nothing.
He mentioned in one of his first emails (back when he wanted me to sell to him under the table) that he was going on this "trip"....yet he did not make any special arrangements once he did actually bid on the item. (ie, "hi, I put in a bid on your auction but I'll be gone when it closes, can we make arrangements, blah blah")
It has now been 16 days since close of auction -I have in my TOS that I will wait 14 days for payment unless other arrangements are made. Do you think I should just NPB this? Even though he was a Paying Bidder, just not a Paying Enough Bidder (?)
He has good feedback.
AND ONE MORE Q: I left him pos feedback after his payment (my mistake) before I saw that he didn't pay the right amount. Can I wipe it away? (I only found "mutual retraction" in the FAQ's).
thx for your help.
