Question
I must be lucky. Compared to some of the horror stories I hear around here, most of my customers know what they are doing, pay fast and leave good feedback! Imagine that!! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif
I don't do a large number of auctions...smaller numbers of (usually) higher dollar items. So, frankly, this hasn't come up before (or, if it has, it's been so long ago I don't have a copy of my answer). Does anyone have a stock response to the following?
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> I don't know enough about buying on Ebay. I'd like to purchase this widget. What do I have to do?
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Where to start? A complete explanation of the proxy bidding process? Link to "eBay for Newbies?" This item does not have a Buy It Now and already has bids. How to explain "auctions" without confusing the guy. My DH says I confuse people with TMI..."too much information."
Anyone have a boilerplate response they wouldn't mind sharing?

Answer
I just tell 'em to figure out the most they are willing to spend and to put in a bid in that amount.
Sometimes they are fishing for a bargain and are not as new as they would like you to believe.
If they really are new - well, I want that bid, whether it turns out to be the winner or not.
Answer
Thanks guys! Both excellent suggestions....think I'll suggest the first and give'em the link to the second.
