Ebay sales rant! :(

Question
This has got to be one of my worst ebay weeks ever. OUt of 28 auctions I had 15 sell for lower than usual bids and 13 not get any bids at all. And to top it off we sold a nice car with a BIN of $3500 and a reserve of $2000. It sold for 2000 and the guys drive 1 hour from Los Angeles with 2 cars and 3 people without telling me they were coming and then proceed to negotiate the price to $1800! My costs to list and clean it were $100. Thank goodness my husband was there- they came at dinnertime. The blue book is $4600 and they are getting a great deal at $2000 because of some stated problems. My husband said he will get back to them tomorrow but it really ticked me off. :mad

Answer
At nearly 50% sell through you are doing better than most.
Remember an auction bid IS A CONTRACT. Dont ever let yourself be chewed down! If they walk away just tell them you will see them in court. Maybe even lie a bit and say your cousin is a producer for Judge Judy.
That should strike the fear of god into them.

You're not alone. I had a horrid Sunday close.
It baffles me. I was averaging a 46 - 55% sell through then Sunday I had 56 close with no bids and 13 sales most with only 1 bid. Stuff I've sold before and some new stuff that should have sold but didn't even get looks.
I think I might place some blame on College Spring Breaks. Kids aren't at school to bid/buy and parents back home are busy with the college kids coming back home and are staying away from eBay.

This week was the best week in several for us. We did not have a ton listed but we had a sell through of 80%.
Michelle, I would not negotiate on that price. That is a good price for that car. Ship it to ND, and I will buy it http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif Before I bought my pickup I was seriously looking at getting a Aurora. You do list two major problems with those cars, oil leak, and bad AC. These are very expensive to fix on that car. However they knew that when they bid. If they don't buy, move on, you might get more next time.
Good luck with your new favorite bidder http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif

I had a good week, though I only had five auctions listed all five sold, and for more than I had hoped for ....

I wrote something earlier and the form to reply locked up and I didn't want to rewrite everything http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_mad.gif
My husband left a message with the bidder's family and said he would accept $1800 because he felt bad when the car would not start right away when they looked at it last night. Of couse today it is fine - I still think they did something to it but DH doesn't beleive me. He left a message with the buyer who then proceeds to show up at my house at 3pm today with no notice and I was just about to run errands. I was home with my two kids and I don't like to have strange people over without Dh here and handle large amounts of money. He then takes out his CREDIT CARD and wants me to use it for payment. What I am? A bank? http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_rolleyes.gif I tell him cash or money order so he goes to a bank which gives me time to call DH and have him drive all the way home from work to sign the papers- this is a company car. At least I made $100 to pay for the ebay fees and my cleaning fee but what a hassle. I would never show up unannouced to someone's house especially when they are an 1 hour away. At least the car is gone but I think DH should of stuck with the $2000 since he said he would not negotiate when they first started talking price the first time he looked at the car. A bid is a bid and he was the one who placed it. Oh well.... http://community.here.com/3/ws/emoticons/confused2.gif
I have also noticed the attitude of bidders has changed lately. I have been selling for 5 years and I can tell when things are different. Bidders seem to be more demanding, picky and rude. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif I think it is time for another break but DH gets on my case when I spend his money and don't have any items on ebay to make money. He doesn't quite see things the same way I do.

I'll agree with this statement
I had a 17 feedbacker accuse me of ripping them off
they used bidpay
it took ten days for the money order to arrive
Starting on day two....the least amount of emails received in one day was 3 ...the most was 12...all rude, threatening and snotty
on the day when they only sent three
I wrote them that evening and asked them if their computor was broken and if they were ok because they hadn't wrote any rude or ignorant 7 paragraph emails accusing me of ripping them off.I was genuinely concerned.....NOT....and one day I wrote them an email and asked them where was their payment....
I felt a neg coming on after the third email, so I might as well have some fun with it. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif
These people have forfeited all rights to the nice "mscongenial me", they get the real McCoy now. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif
their payment finally arrived, I sent their package and told them NOT to write me before 30 days was up, as I couldn't do anything from this end before then....haven't heard a word since, I kind of miss those emails, made all the rest look good http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif
