Why Is It That People Don't Say Thank You

Question
I have noticed that lots of people here on here ask for help about various different things. Iding items, eBay yes or no's, or just plain simple common sense advice.
So why does anyone help these people when they don't even have the decency to say thank you?
I am not trying to start any wars hear, but I kind of think that common sense would tell the asker to say thanks. After all we do get paid a lot for helping others out, right?

Answer
That's an interesting point. I have never asked for an ID or the like on this board, but have done so several times on ebay message boards. I have emailed the people who took the time to respond, just saying something like thanks for sharing your expertise; it's much appreciated. Every time I've emailed someone to thank them, I always get an email back.

Answer
I think that this board is perpetual, meaning that ok, "joe-blow" asked for help this time
but "joe-blow" reciprocates by being the problem solver next time(or a week from now, or a month from now).....and most know that we appreciate the help in solving problems.
Personally, I never expect a thank you, but I do expect an answer to my problem when I have one....which I have NEVER been let down on in all this time
This place is the smartest, kindest, most interesting, profittable for the posters, funniest, coolest and weirdest place to hang out on the net.
and just in case someone is feeling left out....thanx for helping making it all that way.

I think that when posters have taken the time to post to try to help someone, it's only good manners for the person being helped to acknowledge the posts. It only takes about 5 seconds of that person's time - even two words ("thanks everyone") would be appreciated.
Even those who aren't asking for help do learn from hearing the responses. I wonder how many useful responses we don't see because posters have felt snubbed in the past when they have spent a lot of time trying to help and then the thread initiator ignores their posts (or doesn't even bother to post back to the thread at all).

Very good answer, possibly true and maybe they should make a commercial?
But even a dog says thanks you.
Then again maybe everyone thinks that because somewhere they reciprocate with some help that it means they do not have to say thank you?
I personally agree with what Irene said above.

Answer
I agree with Irene but am not personally slighted if soemone doesn't say thank you....but some people obviously are, because I have seen similar topic threads over the years around here.

When I ask for help I always say thanks up front in the original post. I try to get back and individually thank the people who have helped but, sometimes it just doesn't happen.
I guess since I say thanks in the beginning and I have had questions never answered, I am up in the thanks department already. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif

> eBay yes or no's, or just plain simple common sense advice.
Yeah, I never understood this. If a person wants the answer quickly, s/he can look it up and find out the answer in a minute. Either their reference skills are lousy, or s/he wants the interaction.
