Question
I am trying to prepare some auctions to take advantage of the UK FLD.
I use Inkfrog as my lister and for image storage.
When I create an auction, and choose a category, I get an error message that the category is unavailable. Apparently, this means that the Inkfrog list of categories for Ebay UK is out of date.
OK. I go to Ebay UK and look for a list of Categories & their numbers so I can just put the correct number on the form.
However, I cannot FIND the list of Categories & their numbers. Does anyone know where to find it?
Thanks,
EleanordeW

OK, it appears you can get the cat # this way (long, however), by clicking on whichever one and looking in the address bar? Right? http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_confused.gif
Answer
Correction - the numbers that are showing are the number of auctions in each category. I need the number code for that category. Thanks for trying though!

I'm having the same problem using SAB.
I just find them as above by individual searches.
I ran a test auction last night and left the price as my usual opening price.
SAB/eBay UK assumed I meant GBP and started the auction at 60% above what I intended.
Now I'm using 1.62 as the conversion rate but eBay shows 1.82 for some tractions (maybe PayPal) so I don't know what will happen.
Many less categories but I'm still going to try and list items that fit into the same few categories to save search time.

I mean, if you click on that specific category, (For example, under antiques & art->Antiques 20th Century->1950s) you get this in the resultant page address bar:
h*ttp://listings.ebay.co.uk/plistings/list/all/category22602/index.html?from=R13, which shows a category number of 22602. Of course if you're listing lots of stuff, this would be time consuming http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif But I could be wrong, too http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif (but don't ever tell my family that http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif )

Greetings,
Here is one of ebay's category lists with numbers, there are a few of them but this is the best (and fastest loading) one:
<http://listings.ebay.com/aw/plisting...ories.html>
The bookmark I got it from is already set on the Antiques category, but you can quickly switch it to whatever main cat. you want.
I list by category number exclusively, I think it's the most efficient way to list. You can also search for items similar to the one you wish to list. On the search results page (which shows the items that you searched for in ALL categories), there will be a box at the left of your screen that shows which categories were chosen to list those items, and how many are in each of the categories. If you click on any of the category links in that box it will take you to a list of those item listed in that category. The box at the left showing category distribution will still show up as long as there are still subcategories with those items in them. At any time you can click on any item that has shown on the search page, and of course it will show which category was selected for that item at the top of the page. To get the number, just place your cursor over the link to the last category title in the category string, the number will show in the location box at the bottom of your browser.
If you hold your cursor over the category links in the category distribution box on the left of the search page, it will show the cat number as described above, but the links shown may not be final subcategories and you can only list items (as far as i know) in final subcategories (you'll get a category error massage when you try to list if the number you used isn't a final subcategory).
Sound confusing!? It's not really, just confusing to describe! Best to start off using the category overview address given above.
Hope this helps!

I have used http://www.kinem.com/files/cat.htm
It is up to date in the categories I list in, but I don't know if all are current.
This is provided by Kinem Software.

I think this URL is the same page as the one mentioned by long-gone (http://listings.ebay.com/aw/plisting...ategories.html) and it loads fast as well.

Answer
All of the urls posted on this thread for category numbers apply to eBay U.S.
Eleanordew was asking for for category numbers for eBay U.K. The category numbers for foreign eBay sites are not necessarily identical and some subcategories may not even exist on the U.K. site.
I notice that on the site map for eBay U.S., there is an url provided for "category overview with numbers" under "Sellers Tools". However, on the site map for eBay U.K., there is no such url shown under "Sellers Tools". It looks like eBay U.K. does not provide such a listing.
