Question
My husband, bless him, managed to pack my electronic scales with some books, which he duly sent off to the buyer.
They have emailed me to tell me of the addition to their parcel. I have asked them to send them back, and I let me know how much postage will be and I will paypal them the money, as they paid me via paypal.
Can I do a partial refund through paypal, or if I hit the refund button does it refund it all?

The refund button refunds it all, you can't do partial refunds
Answer
Bum....
I really hoped it would be simple.
Thanks for letting me know.

Actually, the partial refund option has been requested from PayPal users for many years. Seems to fall upon deaf ears.
The partial refund process isn't all that difficult. Just hit the "send money" tab, pop in their email address & amount, and if so desired (I'd recommend) and a notation what it is for.
Just a few more steps involved than hitting a non-existent "refund" button and the amount.

The only thing with that, Kathleen, is that I assume that it is subject to a second round of fees. Presumably that is why Paypal does consider it a priority, so they can gouge us twice.

Answer
If you do a full refund to the customer they can then send the correct amount with the only fees deducted being on the second payment. Somebody has to be the first one to trust the other to do their side of it, of course.
Answer
Yes, I had considered that too, but I haven't had a reply yet. I would hate to be out the cost of the books, the ebay fees, the Paypal fees AND the cost of replacing my electronic scales.
If they respond, I will send them a cheque to cover the cost of the postage, as I think that minimises my risk.
