New Sales Tax for eBay Sellers? (Subject Line)
Call to Action: Halt Legislation Threatening Remote Sales Tax!
More and more eBay users like yourself are being targeted by governments as a fertile ground for new regulations and tax burdens. Currently, there is a very real threat that legislation in your state will require eBay sellers to collect, file, and remit sales taxes on every eBay transaction.
Because of a Supreme Court decision in 1992, eBay sellers are currently not required to collect out-of-state sales taxes. That may change with legislation being proposed in Congress and state legislatures around the country to force tax collection and remittance burdens upon you. This is in part driven by the need of cash-strapped states to secure additional tax sources.
What can you do? Start by clicking here to get more information about this threat and how it might impact you. Then follow instructions to join our friends at NetChoice in sending a note to your state and Congressional representatives. NetChoice is a coalition of individuals, companies and trade associations dedicated to protecting your ability to buy and sell online.
Your continued success as Internet entrepreneurs in part depends upon the outcome of this issue. Please do not pass up this opportunity to have your voice heard by your elected representatives.

I have 7 different user ID's with different email addresses, and I haven't received any email's about this...
I wouldn't do anything if I were you.
eBay wouldn't care if we had to charge tax or not....that is unless they could get some of it http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_rolleyes.gif

Answer
Smells like spam to me. Too greasy for ebay.

Answer
I thought it was spam also...until I went to ebay and checked the site map.
Go to ebay and click on site map...when the page opens go to "Seller Central" (under "SELL" in the first column), click on seller central, on that page is a column heading tilted "choose a topic"...in that column click on "public policy" and you come to the page in the email "public policy grassroots". The link to netchoice doesn't work off this page or the email.
It looks like this WAS from ebay (or so it seems to me!)

I got the e-mail, too, except mine had this added

quote:
As you know, the SST legislation came very close to being enacted in the Legislature's last Regular Session. Thanks to the efforts of a few key legislators, especially House Speaker Johnnie Byrd, this proposal was not adopted. We need your help to support Speaker Byrd and to help him fight against the legislation next year.

This Byrd guy happens to be a state legislator (that I DON'T support, due to school issues, LOL), so I do wonder just how targeted these things are!

I got it also. Was sure it was spam, but now that I know it's from the gorilla itself I think Ebay needs to work on their emails so they're at least as good as the spammers are.

Answer
The vast majority of Ebay sellers would not have to collect sales tax for other states under the proposed legislation, I think the floor is like 6 million a year gross. I'm rooting for the alligator, I hope he swallows your friends whole. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif
