Question
I found a user ID that I really really want, but it appears to be already taken. I have been watching it for the whole summer waiting for the user to verify the name, but it is still showing 'not a verified user' when I try to access it through the ID history link or by clicking on the feedback icon, etc. However, the name is obviously taken, as I can't register it. Has anyone snatched an unverified name before? If so, how did you go about doing it?

I'm aware of several of these unconfirmed IDs that have been tied up in the system for years.
I know someone who registered an ID, never confirmed because they didn't know they had to and now just doesn't care. So the account just sits there unconfirmed.
It's a registered ID, it's just not a confirmed account.
As far as I know, the ID will never become available unless the person contacts ebay to cancel the account.
