How successful are Ebay Stores. Is yours a success?

Question
Hi we are thinking of trying ebay stores. We have a lot of print editions and some nice images that we can sell but wonder if ebay stores might not be a good way to sell these. Can someone explain the costs. I find ebay explanations confusing.
Here are the things I would like to know.
If you are using this service.. is it successful for you?
What is the cost to list items in the stores.. I understand that there is a .05 per item charge ..for 30 days I believe. I also understand that there is a $9.99 charge per month.
However I don't understand the cost relationship between an auction listed for 7 days and when that item doesnt sell what is the total listing cost for that item for the 30 day duration of a store listing..
and what is the relist cost per month.. do you have any other cost than the .05 per item charge for the 30 days. I understand that when you first list an item for your auction you pay for all the services selected.. such as gallery bold etc.. when the same item is transferred to the store is there an additional cost beyond the 9.99 and .05 per item.? Any help would be appreciated.
Also any general stuff I should know about before using this service.. I think I read somewhere that stores listings show up on either 'froogle' or 'google' .. is this correct?

Yes, because I sell similar items in my store as I do in my auctions, and very strongly encourage bidders to look in my store too. Mentioning that you combine shipping helps a LOT. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif If your auction items and store items are totally unrelated, you'll have to find another way to advertise your store stuff, because eBay doesn't include store stuff in their search. (Well, they do have a "store search" feature, but not many people know about it.)

$9.99 per month for the basic store, plus $.05 per listing every 30 days. Not sure what you mean on the rest, but if a Good-Til-Cancelled store item doesn't sell, they just charge $.05 for the next 30 days. GTC items get auto-relisted if they don't sell, so it's hands-free. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif

Using the gallery for store items is just $.01 extra, every 30 days, so it's $.06 instead of $.05 (*well* worth it, IMO). I don't know about using "bold", etc., since I haven't used it myself.

Yup, eBay stores show up under a Google search (not sure about Froogle -- perhaps someone else will know). http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif

If you open a store the first month's fee of $9.99 is waived. With the free listing days (Sept 30 to Oct. 2) for eBay Stores, it will cost you nothing to try it out (except a penny for each listing for gallery). You can always close your store in a month's time.
The regular insertion fee (if not listing on a free listing day) is 5 cents per listing. The insertion fee covers any quantity for a single listing, whether you list 1 or 1,000 of the same item.
The fees are explained here: http://pages.ebay.com/storefronts/pricing.html

I opened mine after getting back from ebay live.
While I'm not getting rich, it has more than paid for itself through the end of the year & more.
It's a good place to park items, so you don't have to retype descriptions (say seasonal items)
Automatic relists are great, since i don't have to remember to do it!
I"m happy with the ebay stores experience, so far.
Can't hurt to try it for free..........

If you sell inventory items, I think its essential and well worth the $10+change a month.
I have links in all of my auctions which refer people to the store listing of the same item. If someone bid (and hence the BIN is gone) and someone needs immediate gratification, this method makes it real easy.
Also I have been experimenting with the eBay keywords banner ad concept, and the eBay store is a convenient plance to have the clickthrough land - all your items in one spot that is easy to navigate.

Do you think it's worth it for antique/one of a kind items?

I just opened one this month, 30 days ago yesterday...
I sell one of a kind stuff
this is my third and last try at the store, I have had a good month and with minimal work. <grin> my favourite part.
we are more than pleased with it, it is now part of our online marketting plan
whatever has happened with ebay and their stores, it is working for us...
I am surprised, because I don't even like the stores, http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif

I held out on stores for the linens site for a long time. I finally took the plunge when I realized it would help better categorize items.
We were trying Andale at the time and I could create listings off-line and put them in the right category right away. At the time I was unable to do that with Vendio so I would have to go in and manually revise each item, a total PIA, so it was not worth it.
Now Vendio supports stores and it makes my life a lot easier. It helps if you list a lot. For example right now I have over 520 items listed on the main site and people can just go to the category they are interested and not have to wade through 20+ pages.
We do a mix of BIN, fixed price and store items, in addition to auctions. It works well.
I've also started selling stuff that lends itself well to stores, like a special cleaning powder for vintage linens. I can just park it there and they sell themselves. All I do is add inventory when needed. A no brainer and that alone has paid for the store fees each month.
The store under our second site is also handy but not as necessary.
I have a dilemma going on right now. I have nearly 2,000 copper monogram stencils, the kind that were used to trace monograms for embroidery. I am not sure where I'll park them but they will be a store item. First, second or a new third ID for these? Not sure yet.
Good luck,
Mimi
