Question
Hi everyone! I have been away from the 'puter for several weeks now. The baby I am expecting seems to prefer that I keep my head in the toilet most of the time. I am slowly getting better, & will be ready to start selling again soon.
There is a "lady" that follows me at auctions. If I pick something up & look at it she is sure to bid against me. If she sees me at the flea market or a tag sale she stays about 2 feet behind me & watches everything I buy. This has gone on for months. She asked my mom recently if I had been sick. Mom replied, "Yes, how did you know?" & she said b/c I haven't had any Ebay auctions running in a long time. I don't know how she found out my id.
I have been considering changing my id for some time for other reasons. I am sure that I want to now. I have enough competition without her as it is. Plus she gives me the creeps. Plus I have an old Aunt that watches & gripes about my auctions too. If I change it now can they find the new id by searching under the old name?

Congratulations about the baby! Sorry you've been so sick. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif
In answer to your question, yes, I'm pretty sure that they can find your new ID if you just switch it. I'm afraid the only way to get away from this nosy person following your auctions would be to start from scratch with a new anonymous user name. It's not fun (I've done it myself) but if you are a private person, it is worth it for the peace of mind.
Edited to say: I just looked at your auction link, and I see you have a lot of feedback that you would lose should you just scrap that ID. You probably don't want to do that. (I only had about a thousand when I switched, so it didn't seem to hurt as much.) Good luck with whatever you decide!

For what it's worth, the zombies will find you quickly, even if you start over completely with a squeaky-clean, brand new ID.
Your mix of merchandise plus your general style of presenting it will quickly give you away.
As a buyer, I had a flock (herd? pod? gaggle?) of zombies following my every move through eBay. They'd snipe anything I bid on, on the notion that if it was worth $X to me (buying to resell) then it was worth $X+1 to them. So I got a new ID. Within a week, the same old crew was merrily following me through cyberspace. Then I got sniping software. End of zombies.
Unfortunately, for a seller it's not so easy, since you can't "snipe" auction listings! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif

Even with your new ID, all anyone has to do is watch what you buy at the flea market or auctions, then search for the item on eBay. It's very easy for them to figure out, the minute you buy something distinctive and list it. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif

Some good points made about the fact that she'd find you anyway. I *think* that she'd be able to find the new ID by searching for the old one for just 30 days (and of course, she'd probably do just that). If I remember correctly, if you change an ID, then the old one is available for someone else after 30 days.
If you set up another (meaning an additional) ID, then after a time had the old and the new one merged, you'd keep the FB you'd earned on the older one . . . . but none of that guarantees that she wouldn't find you.
It's just amazing how nosy some people are . . . she needs to get a life.

ugh.....I really do not want to start over again. I was hoping that since you can't search by email address anymore that the ID wouldn't show up.
