Date: 09/10/03 Time: 10:59:25 AM PDT
Coming in October, eBay will be launching a new feature called Pre-Filled Item Information that will be available in many subcategories of Books, Movies, Music, and Video Games. Pre-filled Item Information makes listing in these categories easier. Sellers can use ISBN and UPC codes, as well as keywords, to pull up stock listing information on these items. They can then select content, including stock photos, item descriptions, and supplemental information (like song lists, film descriptions, etc.) that is added to listings automatically!
Pre-Filled Item Information is completely optional. During the listing process, sellers listing items in subcategories for which this feature is available will get the choice to either use Pre-Filled Item Information, or use the regular Sell Your Item form. In addition, sellers who select this feature can pick and choose which pieces of content to use in their listings: Features like stock photos, descriptions, etc. can be used in place of, or in conjunction with, custom photos, detailed item descriptions, and other listing details.
Sellers who use the Pre-Filled Item Information Feature will see the following benefits:
Ease of use
Time savings — include more of the details your buyers want without having to write the content yourself
Flexibility — use pre-filled material, alone or with content of your own!
It's totally optional.
It's free!
Pre-filled Item Information provides some of the same functionality many buyers and sellers utilize on Half.com. To help you keep informed about the Half.com transition, we will be publishing information on our new Half Transition Hub page that will be available from your My Account page on Half.com on September 12.
Pre-Filled Item Information will be available from the Sell Your Item form, other eBay selling tools (Turbo Lister, Selling Manager, etc.), and many third-party tools. We encourage you to check out our Pre-Filled Item Information preview page, as well as our FAQ's for additional information.
Regards,
eBay

Yes, last month I did a survey from eBay and it had screen shots of what we can 'look forward to' http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_redface.gif
Not everyone who took the survey got the same screens, it varied by your input. Suffice to say I wasn't overly thrilled with their new improvements. <g>

Well that sounds just dandy-NOT!!! So what's in the picture is not the actual item we will get. So how is ebay going to handle all the buyers b!tching cause the item they received had a scratch, crease, different case, no case, etc. and that sure wasn't in the picture in the auction?
Would be nice to know which auctions have the stock photos on them so I can avoid them.

Probably the same way it is handled on half right now...the seller describes the condition of the item. If the seller wants to be sure the buyer knows the picture is a representative one only they can note that in the auction.
Answer
sharron, that's a good point, but don't most of the people who use Half understand that the pics are stock pics? The general perception on ebay is that, with few exceptions, the picture in the auction is the exact one up for sale and the one that the buyer will be receiving. It's easy to spot some of the ones that use "stock" pics lol.

I guess it could be really handy for people who sell new items, but not so great for people who sell collectible books, etc.
I bet having all that information will mean larger files for Seller's Assistant Pro & Turbo Lister.
