Question
Just got a auction yanked.
Some genius went thru it with a nit picker comb, found things that MIGHT MAYBE could be violations and canceled it.
1. They said the title was too vague. In the title I wrote essentially "picture of XXX on a zippo". How vague is that?
2. You violated eBay's User Agreement by adding irrelevant information to the listing. I had 2 sentences explaining who the artist was who created the zippo.
3. (Here's the kicker). Your listing contains the following information:
"snow white"
We realize you may not be aware of this policy, but using these terms in this way is considered "keyword spamming," which is not permitted by eBay.
The 3rd one has me speechless. The original sentace read in part "Lighter is brand new, wick is snow white".
Keyword spamming? Somebody * ebay has their head up their *$$.
Answer
Competitor?
Check to see if anyone else has a similar item up?
Can't imagine that anyone at eBay has time to check that out so closely, unless triggered by someone.

Yup, check & see if anyone else is selling this lighter. I can't imagine eBay taking the time to find you.

Guess you'll have to say:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> Lighter is brand new and wick is white as snow. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Absolutely ridiculous.......

...golly, if every auction with a vague title was yanked, eBay would be a very small site....

Then you'll get cancelled by the author of "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary" because the verse has "... flece is white as snow". http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif

Or....a person searching for Disney Snow White merchandise got "highly upset" that a Zippo lighter (heavens, smoking!) appeared during their search.
They might think they are doing the world a favor by getting your auction cancelled so it doesn't appear in a search for "Snow White".
Answer
Disney is not a Vero member, believe it or not, so this had to be someone who reported your auction.
Although I'm kind of in agreement with the keyword spam issue. Not to say that you intentionally meant to and not that I think they should have killed your auction over it, but ...
Is "Snow white" a term commonly used to describe lighter wicks? Would something like 100% white, brand new, beautiful white, etc. work instead?
Answer
The wick is still as white as snow.......
eBay doesn't look for this kind of stuff, some pin head reported you.
Answer
Smx1313 had a zippo light
Its wick was white as snow
eBay burned his butt with it
And boy that butt did glow!

More importantly, is the term "snow white" commonly used to describe the colour of something in pristine condition - whether a fridge, a lighter wick, ice cream or milk glass.....
It is a term in common useage, and has been used in this case in an appropriate context. I dissagree emphatically that because it has been used to describe the brand new wick of a cigarette lighter that it is key word spamming. Key word spamming for starters, has to have the specific intention of being found in a search and not just for turning up in a search because it was used in a different (but legitimate) useage of the expression.
The report of the auction (for key word spamming under the circumstance described) should not have been considered once the description had been read, let alone closing the auction.
Almost every auction would contain a combination of words that could be used in a different context, to have a different meaning, by your criteria WB Bell, all of these are also keyword spamming, whatever they are actually selling.
Heck, maybe the Disney auctions should also be closed down as the girl had black hair and pink complexion - there was nothing "snow white" in colour about her....
I am not being as aggressive towards you as that may sound, the point is that there has to be a line drawn where keyword spamming is truely keyword spamming. Common useage in correct context should not be considered that way at all, even where it crosses into an irrelevant search.
LOL * Bill's poem!
Kind Regards, Kevin
