Question
I had an item up for auction and I used the words "Shabby Chic" in the title. I vaguely remember hearing there is a company called Shabby Chic, but there must be thousands of items with those words in the title...it conveys a certain style of decorating.
Sooo...obviously I can't use shabby chic in my titles anymore. Any suggestions for an alternate that would attract the same bidders?

6804 items found for shabby chic
Amazing...must have been a competitor seller who turned you in.
Answer
Oh 2pats, you MUST have pizzed someone off!....A competior perhaps?...cause I just can't see you gettin' someone angry!!!...
Key in "Shabby" or "Chic" and you'll find the hundreds, maybe even thousands of work-arounds....Things like "Chic but not Shabby"....OR...Shabby Cottage Chic (<- THAT"S a good one!)...
Sorry to hear you were shutdown....BE CAREFUL....SOMEONE is turning you in!!!! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_eek.gif
Answer
Rachel Ashwell created and copyrighted Shabby Chic, I can't really imagine her nixing one auction out of thousands and would have to question whether ebay even checked with her. I've used that phrase for years and never been veroed, I agree it had to be a competitor. Shabby but Chic is good too.

There was a big brew ha ha over this issue quite a while ago (wish I could find that thread)... personally I'm with you in that's a commonly used decorating term and is now a part of the mainstream lingo. If I remember correctly a judge felt much the same and ruled against Rachel Ashwell regarding that at one point.. not sure where it went from there though.
If you truly feel it fits I've found that terms Ms Pheo and Mels suggested usually work: "Chic but not Shabby"; Shabby Cottage Chic; Shabby but Chic as does: Shabby yet Chic; and "not to shabby yet very(rather) chic" when used in the description.
Sadly I agree with the others... this was probably the work of a competitor.

No kidding, packrat, I actually got NARU'd over "shabby chic." I'm still in shock myself. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_eek.gif
I never thought of a competitor, but now that you mention it, I suspect who the culprit might be. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_rolleyes.gif Thing is, she uses the phrase in her auction titles too, and sells precisely the same items I do. Sheesh!
I can't imagine how I pizzed anybody off..I simply list my little doo-dads and mind my own business. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif
LdyGreensleeves, I wish I could find the thread too. Not that it would do any good...once eBay says don't do it, you're beating your head against a wall to try to reason with them.
Thanks for the suggestions on an alternate phrase...to conserve space in my title, I'm thinking of using Shabby & Chic...think that would work?
I really like Shabby Cottage Chic and Shabby But Chic, too.
Will give this some more thought...keep the suggestions coming!

Oh and Kenny, I FORGOT to mention that I have submitted the proper forms and are waiting for final approval on the word "PACKRAT" to add to my VERO list!..he.he.he.he!!! http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_razz.gif http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_razz.gif
2Pats...I didn't think you could pizz anyone off....MUST be the competitor....Which gives you the option of turning her/him in too, but that's kinda slimy....Two wrongs don't make a right....(but 3 lefts DO!)......
Shabby & Chic is probably the best to use in the title to save space..(edited to add: you can also put Shabby in the front of the title and Chic at the end & you'll be ok!)..You can expand it to Shabby Cottage Chic in the description..... http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif
