Stores - do & don't, good ideas, tips, success stories etc...

Question
I've seen a few requests for a thread about stores, so I thought I'd start one.
I've finally opened one in all 3 ID's and it's been worth it.
Initially the main goal was to use the categorizing, especially since I routinely have over 500 items listed. People just don't want to go through that many pages.
But it's been great to cross-merchandize, and to list items that can just sit there.
I tend to use the Good 'Till Cancelled option, and just let them sit there.
I do link and talk about the store in the auctions, to drive traffic. Because we combine shipping, it works well.
So all in all it's been a good experience for me and it's given me good ideas to use for my website as well.
Now I have to work on other parts of the store, to maximize the potential.
What about you?

Answer
Mimi,
I love my store and sell out of it on a daily basis.
I tend to use the gtc unless I think it is an item that I think would sell if I wait and put it on a bit later that it did just not have the right audience looking the week I had it on. In those cases I put it on the 30 or 60 day.
The biggest boon for me was putting the buttons on the left side of my template in a table. I am not totally happy with the look and will probably hire some one to create me an auction template that I like better. ( My Son was suppose to do it but is just to busy right now). When you create the buttons you can add text that highlights when the cursor goes over to entice them to look. It is not searchable so it is not condsidered key word spam.

I'm closing mine at the end of this month. Just not worth it for me, and my main goal is to get away from eBay and to derive most of my income from my website. Just works better for me - I don't have crazies holding "a NEGATIVE" over my head, I get paid, and people have realistic ideas about shipping times and charges. I just don't feel so much pressure from my website sales, not quite sure why.
I'm tickled for anyone who can make it work. I do try to shop Stores when on eBay, and am glad there's now a search for the stores - just wish they were integrated with the regular search.

I've had my store for several months now and am happy with the results so far. While I wouldn't say it's a bang-up hit, it is producing more sales for me than just my auctions. I also like that it doesn't cost me as much and I too, use the GTC.
I haven't added anything since I heard about the price decrease, I'm waiting until that take effect. I'll add more items then.
I also like the cross promotion and having more categories is great. In fact, I could use a few more of those to really make searching for my customers easier.
I have decreased the amount of auctions I am running to decrease my eBay fees and hope I have enough going to just drive traffic. If I sell the auction items too, well that's fine with me http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif
I usually take some items that didn't sell via auction and park them in the store. I would rather spend 2/3¢ a month and hope someone picks it up than to risk another set of auction fees.
I make sure that my auctions mention the store, I also make sure my notice of shipment includes mentioning the store and the link to it.
I wish that store items were included in the main search, but that will never happen.

I just opened a store a couple of days ago. I really like the idea of having buttons in my auctions that lead back to the store. Thanks for that idea!
I did notice one thing that really pizzed me off. You can search on the stores by going into search and using the tab furthest on the right. Once the results are shown, there is a link on the bottom of the results page so you can use the same search in auctions. But if you search auctions, there is no button to see if you want to use the same search for stores. How dare they!!!!

Jojisube,
I looked at your auctions and the type of items you have would be perfect for a store. With a store you can sort them into categories that make it easier for the customer.
Ebay stores are showing up more and more in google search. You need to pick a wise name and careful description though.
When I search on google anymore it is more common than naught to click on a link an be taken right to the sellers store. My store is google rank (not high mind you but it is ranked http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif )
Yes, you can easily change from auction to store format. I use sapro and can do this in seconds with the click of a button. If you use the ebay relist page, I believe it is the first page you come to that asks what format you like.
Remember too that you can get a gallery pic for a penny with the stores. An coming soon it will just be 2¢ to list.
Good luck and post back if you need help. I would lurk the ebay store forum too. They have lots of good advice and are very friendly.
