eBay Denies a 3 Day Auction Listing!

Question
I tried listing an item for a three day auction through a third party system yesterday, showed as failed. Tried listing directly on eBay today, chose the three days length of auction from the drop down box, filled out all info, clicked submit and got the following message:
"You can not submit your listing due to the following problems:

Attention Seller:
You can only list using 5, 7 or 10 day auctions for this item. Please go back and revise your auction duration time.
We sincerely value you as a member of our trading community and look forward to a continued successful relationship."

Does anyone know when this change was implemented, when announced, what categories are effected and the purpose of the new "rule"??? I have used this same category with three day auctions thousands of times over the years. I have my questions submitted to eBay, but thought there may be more wisdom and quicker answers from hereN'S
I often use three day auctions to drive bidders to my other items and into the store....how frustrating!!!

Answer
Haven't heard anything about this at all.

Answer
Are you doing multiple listings of the same item?

Answer
No, it was a single listing:
Listed in category: Crafts > Sewing > Sewing Patterns > Women's Clothing
I listed a three day auction on 2/3/07. Same category no problems...so sometime in the last three days they have implemented this rule at least in this category. Maybe it's a test to see how much grumbling they receive before a site wide rollout or just typical eBay tinkering and it will dissapear as fast as it came.
No reply yet from my email to eBay

Answer
Okay, I was thinking about something else when I asked you that, it was irrelevant.

As one of the "safeguards" eBay has implemented in their anti-counterfeiting campaign, 1 and 3 day listings are not allowed for certain items on the "list".

And, no, I don't have a copy of "the list".

I know I read about this somewhere, and bookmarked it. Unfortunately, it's on my notebook, which I am not using right now.
I'll go fetch it, and be right back.

Answer
Okay, here are a couple of links that may be relevant to your situation.

From Auctionbytes (duh, I read them from a link on here, most likely):

http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m11/i29/s01

eBay will ban 1-day and 3-day auctions of all items on its anti-counterfeiting list to give eBay members and rights-holders enough time to review items. And, a related story about sellers struggling to comply:

http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m12/i22/s01

eBay does not actually tell sellers what items are on eBay's anti-counterfeiting list, but it appears to be designer items in such categories as clothing, shoes & accessories and jewelry & watches. ........they may not list those items in 1-day or 3-day auctions; they must change the ship-to location on listings to uncheck China and Hong Kong. In addition, sellers must pass a manual review conducted by eBay, which considers "a variety of factors" before letting sellers list items prone to counterfeiting.
I don't know if your items are on the list; this may not even apply in your case. I just though I'd toss it out there.

Good luck!

Answer
Thanks Darryl for the info... you taking the time to locate it and post it is much appreciated!
Yeah, I can see where a sewing pattern is at high risk for counterfeiting It was a designer pattern with the designers name in the title, so maybe that is what set off the red flags at eBay. The pattern listed on 2/7 was also a designer pattern with the name in the title, I'm guessing they must not be a VERO member. I just cannot understand why they give these VERO members so much power to interfere with sellers...THEIR CUSTOMERS... businesses!

Answer
For those interested...eBay's response (bolding mine):
"In early December, eBay began enforcing some of our counterfeit and
trademark infringement violations a little differently. One particular
issue that changed was that counterfeiters have sometimes used 1 and 3
day listing durations to lure buyers to their items. Because of the
short duration time of these listings, there is little time for eBay
Members and rights owners to detect these listings and have eBay take
them down. As such, certain types of items and brand names are being
blocked from using 1 and 3 day durations at this time.
We're unfortunately not able to be more specific at this point as to the
precise types of goods that will be affected by these initiatives.
We
want to maintain flexibility to adapt our initiatives to maximize their

Answer
Translated...we still don't know what the heck we want to do, so we're going to make it up from one second to the next and not even tell the people we have making the decisions what we want to do
