Is $4.99 handling to ship a CD excessive? Not to ebay!

Question
Ebay sent me an email today that they're going to stop supporting the old version of Turbo Lister on April 4. The email offered a free CD that contains the new version for download and information (spam) about their other seller tools:
You'll also find the new Turbo Lister installation and information about other tools on the free eBay Seller Tools CD-ROM. We'll even pick up the shipping for Turbo Lister sellers until March 31, 2007, or while supply lasts. Order your free CD-ROM from the eBay Shop with this shipping code: MyTLCD I went to the eBay Store and tried to order it with that promotional code. Well, they *did* take off the shipping charge, but they added $4.99 for handling!
I guess somebody forgot about their recent crackdown on excessive handling charges. Either that, or they don't consider $4.99 handling for a CD "excessive."
No, I didn't order it.

Answer
I got that email, too. I still don't like the new Turbo Lister-when I import listings from the old version, it crunches all the html in my description so I can't easily find the spots where I need to insert text and pics. There's a problem with scrolling the description box, too-it won't.
POS. I'm sticking with the old one until I HAVE to switch.
And $4.99 for "handling". Oh brother.

Answer
I bet if we were to charge a $4.99 handling charge, ebay will shut down our listings. Last month I had a listing ended for $1.20 handling charge.

Answer
mysteriouscutie,
The trick is to hide your handling charges in a nebulous S&H fee. The biggest mistake I see, is itemizing all your costs as that is simply asking for trouble - particularly from competitors.
My S&H fee covers eBay and payment fees and shipping & packaging costs plus a small profit depending on the country I'm shipping to. I usually only ship international (located in NZ aka 'the end of the world') and offer a choice of two flat rates via Airmail for most countries. Never, ever had any problems with eBay or customers about my S&H charges...
