New ebay Scam! Email is about MY item on auction NOW!

Question
Just got an Ask a Seller a Question from ebay seller, about an item I have on
auction right now. Looks completely legitimate
BUT... the links in the email go to a phishing site!!!
So be careful people, now they are using your own items to try
to steal your info!!!
One giveaway was that the buyer had a feedback of 0. Upon checking,
he is already NARU.

Answer
I got a couple of those recently. Make sure you forward it to eBay. I actually got a nice response from them saying they were trying to track down the site!

Answer
The only link in an "ask seller a question" email that one usually clicks is the "respond now" link. What kind of info could they get from you if you just answer a question?
If a "respond now" link results in being asked for sensitive info, you'd know instantly that it was a scam. Thanks for the heads up that they are now using our own auctions against us!

Answer
I got one of those too and they almost got me. The thing that stopped me from answering right from the email was the question they asked... Do I ship to New Jersey?
I logged in to my ebay and lo and behold the message wasn't there.
It's no wonder people are sick to death of ebay.

Answer
I've changed to just answering questions if they are in the message area of myebay, and even then I'm leery of those (the ones that come in after the auction has ended)

Answer
There have been some of these phishing emails that come into my ebay messages box though.
I got one on one of my yahoo auctions and I almost fell for it. The links even look real, but I was logged into my auction account and there was no question there.

Answer
Even if it DID come from ebay and you aren't signed in, you will be asked to sign in. So if you did sign in-either you are signing in to ebay or you are giving a scammer your info.
Also-clicking on a link in an email you don't know where it came from is asking for a virus/trojan.
Many reasons why they send those. All of them lead to DO NOT CLICK ON THE YELLOW BUTTON EVER EVER EVER.

Also, if you respond from your own email and forget to check/uncheck the "hide my email address from xyz" option, they could get your email that way, too.
Since Friday, I've gotten the same solicitation to buy overseas made goods, including a link to an off Ebay site. Very annoying. Can't remember whether they came from a single user name or more than one, but they've been definitely targeting the book category, specifically cookbook listings, posing as asking a question about the listing. Of course, I turned them in immediately, with the title "offering to sell off Ebay" since that's the magic phrase that will get them immediately NARU'd. Darn scammers.

Answer
Thanks for the input C_Q. Timely too, I just picked up a box of vintage cookbooks I was going to tinker with.
