Hi, Everyone!
I will be listing ornaments on eBay soon, and I can't figure out how to set up the S/H and insurance for multiple purchases.
The customer buys 1 - 3 ornaments with free shipping on the 2nd and 3rd ornaments. The same with 4-8 ornaments - they pay for the total quantity, but the S/H and insurance is free on the 5th thru the 8th ornaments.
Obviously, I'm not doing something right, because for years whenever a customer purchases multiple ornaments, the S/H and insurance total also increase (example: 2 ornaments should be $18, plus $5.50 S/H, plus $1.35 ins, but it comes out $18 for ornaments, $11.00 S/H and $2.70 ins.) The buyer sends payment right away, and then I have to refund the difference and explain what happened, which is time consuming. I would really like to set it up correctly to eliminate this.
I would be so appreciative if someone could talk me thru this...
Thanks for your time...

Maybe you should try to figure out a single formula that would work no matter how many they buy. It won't be perfect, but at least it'll work...
x for the first item sold, plus x-y for each additional item sold. (I don't think you'll be able to get 'free' added into that anyway, but if you add enough to the per ornament amount to get to the amount (if you sold 4 or 5) you would be charging for 4 (through 8) in your original plan you won't be losing money. The other benefit is that there's more incentive for them to buy more than 2 or 3...
Or just go with the easy solution. Charge what you'd normally charge for 8 for the initial item purchased and then give the additional shipping for free.
Edited to add: I'm not sure what to do about the insurance as I never use the USPS insurance...

You can do this by setting your preferences.
- Log into My eBay
- On the LH menu go to My Account and click on Preferences
- Go to Selling Preferences > Shipping & Discounts > Show > Edit
The information about shipping discounts can be found at: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/shipping_discounts.html

I gave up. The payment instructions we now have, the text that pops up when someone tries to pay through paypal, say that ebay doesn't handle shipping very well on multiple purchases and gives our email address to contact us for combined shipping. If someone goes ahead and pays the full shipping I do a refund. We do actual shipping and I just haven't figured out any way to make it work.
Good luck!

I am having a problem with this right now too. Someone just bought 4 ornaments and I'm trying to send an invoice with a combined shipping charge but it will not go through. All these little glitch things should not be happening now as we enter the busy selling time of year!

At least you're getting bids I'm looking for something, and pages are taking up to 20 minutes to load, and gallery pics are sketchy at best 99% of the time.
