Question
Search hotmail.com on Google, and see who's the top-most link (sponsored) and also who's on the side. For me, it's eBay.ca (I'm in Canada although I use google.com not google.ca).
Hypocrits. I'm just surprised they're getting away with it.
Answer
eBay has what is known as "run of the site" advertising. Regardless of what you type in for a search phrase, eBay will show up in at least some of the sponsored results. A few other sites do pretty much the same thing... but perhaps on a somewhat more limited basis.
I guess if you're able to provide the cash to back up the click-thru's on otherwise irrelevant (useless?) targeting, Goggle is willing to play along.
When clicking on the link, it takes you to an automated eBay search using a portion or derivative of your search phrase... in the case of hotmail.com, I got a list of sellers trying to hock vanity email addresses, mostly those associated with some sort of marketing. I.e., BestViagra*Hotmail.com

Yes that's what I mean. I don't understand why eBay wastes time on such irrelevant searches. Perhaps the clicks mean more in stock dollars than we realize, but i doubt it...
