Hello everyone, this is Jenny Copson from Product Management. This week we’re launching eBay’s new counter feature, which will replace the existing Andale counters that some sellers have used for the past five years. Counters are an important tool that help both buyers and sellers get a sense of the number of other members who may be interested in the listing.
What to expect
Three styles will be available: basic, retro-computer and hidden. As today, visit counts will start at zero and stop when the listing ends. eBay counters will be an option on new listings and relisted items. Existing Andale counters will not be replaced on current, revised or ended items.
Store Inventory listings with the ”Good ‘Til Cancelled” duration will be updated with the new eBay counters when there have been no visitors for 90 -120 days. For information on using counters in your listing, visit our Help page.
Please note: Sellers who wish to continue to use the Andale counters may do so by visiting the Andale website.
Hopefully this new "englitchment" will come off with the most minimal of impact on auctions & store items.

Answer
Are they charging for them? I'm off to look. Can't believe I didn't get a notice of some sort from Andale and/or eBay. Oh, DUH! What was I thinking!!!

Answer
about a month ago, so of course I asked Crystal about it at ebay live. Andale had to pay ebay for each counter used. It just wasn't profitable. I am sad about it as I have been using honesty counters for as long as I have been on ebay. It is one of the features that has stayed the same and worked, well better than other things.
I hope they are not going to charge for them.

Answer
Hell, why don't they fix their INDEXING issues before they try to manage their own Counters?
This will be one huge headache that I'll bet eBay wishes they hadn't taken on!
MR, when I signed into Andale, I immediately received the Counters message. Also, I read it here on here first.

Answer
I hope they are not going to charge for them. If they follow the changes on the Australian and UK Sites, they won't charge for them, but they also won't be worth what you pay for them. I haven't looked at any UK discussion, but on the Australian site, the new counters were resetting to "1" a day or two into the auction, were showing two hits when three people had bid on an auction, etc. I assume that they have improved since introduction, but we are talking Ebay and their use of technology, so don't hold your breath.....
This was one thread where Australian Ebayers warmly embraced the new counters in April.

(Please pretend I have a notice of affiliation in my profile). This hat wearing is tough (just a user, jims mate, andale employee). Since I don't think I ever really post as andale, but am now, I'll make sure I have jim update for me. I'll figure out later what to do with other hats...
Just want to let everyone know..if you have any questions, there is a FAQ right on andale home page. Rumors will abound, I'm sure ..but its really pretty boring, we just decided not to renew contract (ZZzzzz)

Answer
you can still use Andale counters and their view page but you will have to have them insert them for you. In the old days, you could make a counter and insert it yourself so the message "this sell added..." wasn't there but I have too many auctions to do that. I suppose if you use Andale products, you would have an option to pick a counter which would be part of the template.
I hate to hear they are already having problems with a simple concept from Honesty. You would think ebay would have figured out counters by now with all the stuff they have already in the way of technology.

Answer
I'm floored that Andale was paying eBay to provide the counters. So, whether it was Andale or eBay that decided not to renew, eBay has lost a revenue stream. What are the chances they will just say "oh well" and not charge for them eventually.

Following that logic, and admiring the intelligence and competence of some of Ebay's staff, do you suppose that some of them also pay for the privilege of working for Ebay? It may explain a lot .....(like the letter blaming Andale for the faulty counters on the Australian thread I linked to above)......

G'day Crystal!
Cheers, Kevin

Answer
I'm feeling slightly sentimental.....
I found here through an Honesty counter link... WAY back when!
