bad checks - out of state - recovery

Question
maybe not recovery, but having the courts take care of them , anyone
know the precedure?

Answer
Imosh,
I have a letter I send certified mail and I have a good recovery rate. I have only had 1 person fail to make good on a hot check in 7 years.
I can post a copy of it for you to modify and use if you want.

Answer
that sounds like a good step 1, paste away.

Answer
I normally give them 10 days from receipt of the letter before beginning phone calls so of course you'll have to change the date in the letter. Oh, and do contact the police dept. in their town to see about filing a police report.
Send it certified mail, return receipt requested.

Answer
I call the bank and ask if funds are there , if you are friendly/lucky the person at the bank may tell what the chances are it will clear second time around .
you will probalby do better with collection agency than the courts especially out of state

Answer
Mango Man is right, I don't bother with the letter until the check has come back a second time marked "do not re-deposit."
Any personal check we receive over $100.00 gets a phone call to the customer's bank to verify two things: 1)it's a real, working checking account and not a closed account and 2) that the check would clear if deposited right this minute.

Answer
Ive had the bank clerk tell me something like " yeah they seem to bounce a lot , but they make deposits on the first and fifteenth , try to put it through again then and it will probably clear .

Answer
i do not intend to recover any money, especially on the Closed Account checks, this is purely for revenge. I've been in court, fines for bad checks is $200 easy, plus possible imprisonment, thats what i'm lookin' for- JAIL!

Answer
I've actually deposited a small amount of money in the buyer's account, just enough to cover the check and cashed away... of course this was only because I knew I would never see any of the money. The "buyer" wasn't too happy about it because apparently other "more important" checks he had written had bounced.
The check was for about $1500, I called the bank and asked if a $1300 check would clear, they said yes, so I deposited 200 dollars and cashed the check at HIS bank immediately. On cashing the check, it nearly drained his account... I felt no guilt.
This was in my more rebellious days, also!
Cheers

Answer
Imosh,
If you intend to press charges, my understanding is that you have to make every reasonable effort to collect first and I think that includes filing a police report.
The one check that I wasn't able to collect on was for 20 bucks, so it wasn't worth my time.
Have fun on your quest.
