paypal refuses ebay request for payment?

Question
Certainly a "what the ...." moment.
I did notice that our fees weren't deducted from paypal this week. Went to "my ebay" and verified that we were still set for automatic payment from our paypal account (which happened to have more than enough money in it so back up source wasn't an issue). Figured they were just off schedule this month.
Then I get an email from ebay that paypal has declined their request for payment. Now do any of us believe ebay and paypal are two separate entities? Of course not. So how in the world did paypal decline ebay's request for payment? I of course clicked no links in the email but went off to paypal and ebay to investigate. The email did, however, have my full name in it, so certainly seemed legit.
So I went and made a one time payment and then signed up for automatic again.
Anyone want to bet I end up paying twice?

Answer
Paying your eBay seller fees with PayPal is dangerous as they are not a bank. If a bank screws up a credit card payment they take responsibility. However as you know PayPal is not a bank and doesn't believe in taking responsibility for anything except limiting your ability to conduct business.
Use a proper credit card to pay your eBay fees and you'll lower your stress levels.

The very same thing happened to me this week. I happened to log onto My Ebay (which I don't do very often) and there was a message in my inbox that Paypal had "reversed" the auto payment to ebay. I went directly to my account summary and saw that it was current, then went to Paypal and there were no notations about any reversed payment.
Despite my better judgment I went to live chat. The guy said after Paypal had reversed the payment they charged my credit card (which is listed as my secondary method). That's fine, but you'd think they might be considerate enough to send a second message.
I never did find out why they didn't take the payment out of Paypal. Oh, and their email finally arrived today -- it only took 2 days.

Answer
That's fine, but you'd think they might be considerate enough to send a second message. Yes, you would think they would be considerate to a paying customer... but then again, experience reminds us all that consideration and ebay/paypal aren't good bedfellows... as much as we'd like them to be.
The whole ebay conglomerate has little regard for it's customers... the longer I do business with them, the fouler the taste in my mouth gets...

hmm it might be the revisions and updates pypal did latley. Check and see if paypal has blocked your automatic payments. Has anyone called paypal and asked what is going on?

Answer
Ahh, at least I'm understanding one part. I got a second email about they couldn't charge my credit charge and I'm thinking "what the... " again - why would they be trying to charge my credit card (which I've never worried about updating) when there is plenty of money in our paypal account. But if they defaulted to a secondary method of payment rather than getting their own subsidiary in gear to make the payment, they are truly screwed up. But of course we knew that. Maryanne

Hmmm, well I thought that made sense that maybe I had an old expiration date on a credit card on ebay but I can't find anywhere on ebay a "backup" payment method. Maybe I'm just missing it.
I also sent an email to paypal. The answer will probably be worth no more than entertainment value but at least I'll know I asked.

Answer
Good luck. eBay customer service sucks. Amazing how a company can get away with treating their customer (the seller) so shabbily.
I pay my invoice via my credit card, it just seems safer that way.

Maryanne That is really mixed up and confusing. Maybe they were trying to charge your credit card through PayPal?
