Question
I just had an item make reserve and noticed it no longer says (Reserve Met) under the bid price.
I'm not sure if this is good, bad or indifferent.
Answer
Hmmmm... That's interesting... I'm not sure how I feel about it either...
Why would they all of a sudden decide that potential buyers don't need to know there was originally a reserve on an item? I guess they don't really need to know, if the reserve has been met, but it really would be nice if eBay would tell us when they change things...
Answer
I just saw that the opening price is also gone. I hate that - it was always fun to stumble upon the items that started out low and went really high.
But I guess they don't need the field on the fixed price venue they're determined to turn into.
Answer
indyattic - the opening price is still there but hidden by default:
The Reserve Not Met is now in a smaller font and not so in-your-face glaring as it was a week ago. In fact it's almost easy to overlook it, which is a good thing if you run an occasional reserve auction like me.
Answer
The jury was out for me as well, but an email I received today indicates that it is going to distort market perceptions of the competition on Ebay.
I spoke to an interstate friend on the phone last night, he was amazed that a pair of photograph albums had pulled $1800, and that for the competition to push them to this level indicated that the market was surging, and his items were increasing in value at the current time. After the call he emailed me the auction URL. Of course, without the (reserve met) near the price and being experienced in Ebay's system for about 7 years, he was oblivious to the fact that the underbidder was about $700 away from the high bid - thus the competive bidding took the item to about $1120 not $1800.
I would suggest that some sellers who research and do not realise that this change has taken place will either be starting their auctions too high, or be VERY dissappointed when their auctions get the true level of competitive bidding. Admittedly, auctions are going to have a wide variance for competitive bidding day to day, but this change in presentation does remove a "learned" warning signal for those who are valuing items from the completed auctions pages of Ebay.
I hope this makes sense.

Where is it???? I looked and looked at the auction Kevin linked to and couldn't find the reserve price.
Answer
Hi Cariad,
It is still on auctions where the reserve is NOT yet met, it is clear enough, but as Maybe said, it is a smaller font and less prominent. The "reserve met" though has been removed from the process.
Cheers, Kevin
Answer
Thanks Kevin,
I misread, and thought you could still find reserve met somewhere. Bah!
Frickin ebay with screwed up search, failure to load pages, multiple sign ins required, and I won't even ask how in the hell the ebay/paypal spoofs, are now getting my REAL name instead of just dear ebayuser.

I'll echo this comment. Just this morning I got a fake PP Payment Confirmation email that had my full name in it.
