Question
There is an ebay id I would like to have but in doing a search found it already in use. It was signed on in the summer of 2000 and has zero feedback. Do you think if I contacted ebay and pointed out that it had never been used, they could/would do something?
TIA,
Mel
Answer
Try emailing the user. If the email goes through, ask them if they'll let you have it. Offer them $5 or something. Worth a try, especially since they are not using it.
If the email bounces report them to eBay for bad contact info so they get NARU'd and try to snap it up in when it comes available.
I've been offered $2,500 for one of my user names. Not giving it up though... Took a lot of hard work to get that green star...

gamecock,
lol. I emailed this user and it bounced back and so I reported it to ebay. The weird thing is, the email is from aol. I used to be on aol, I had thought of using this ebay id before. I'm beginning to wonder if I DID register this id and never used it and just don't remember!!!

On the sing-in page there is a link for if you forgot your password. I think they might email you a hint? Maybe you can try it and see if you know they password to figure out if it is you?
Answer
lol... I've actually done that before myself... Start racking your brains for all the old passwords you used to use and try to log in... I was able to figure it out in my case...
Did you try emailing and asking Ebay? Can't hurt. You'll probably get a useless canned response like usual though...
I hope you can reclaim the name you want - Good luck!
Answer
I did the same thing on Yahoo!
Reg'd, didnt do anything for over a year, forgot all about it.
When I went back I saw my name was taken..reg'd with a new one. After running auctions for a few months DING! I remmembered. It took a little doing but I got Yahoo to give the password for the 1st name. Still use it today.
