Is it cruel?

Question
Is it cruel to file an upaid bidder on an International that files a claim that they didn't get their package? I have two in one week going back to 12/27/05that claim non reciept. So, since Pay Pal is holding my monies, isn't it fair that I file a claim of non reciept of funds? Hmmmnnn.. .kind of puts pressure back on the buyer as well. But, I'm real fed up with the International mail systems more than the buyers. Can't be traced, Global Priority and Surface mail leave no tracing numbers only Customs numbers. Is International mail theft that high in other countries? I'm considering either raising my shipping rates to Global express rates or simply not bothering with Internationals. (I actually like them and do well with them in most cases, but two in one week?) Sucks.
Who else isn't having fun in this area?

Answer
It's not cruel, it's business.
I don't accept paypal for international purchases, but I can't say I recommend that for everyone. It depends what you sell, how competitive your market is etc.
And no, it isn't always fun whether it's international or domestic. Every job has it's draw backs.
Good luck however you decide to handle it.

Answer
How long are they waiting before declaring it lost?
My policy as a Canadian was 6 weeks.
I only had two shipments that didn't make it in that time.
I've read that customs after 911 has made things worse. On both sides of the border.

Answer
Doofy, only 4 weeks, surface mail to Mexico and one to the UK.. generally have no problems with these bidders. Shame. I've started a new policy with our listings and just refunding the internationals with a note stating that theft is just too high for us to continue to ship to their countries. I really don't want to do that because they're great customers and nice to have as customers but, whoa! 2 burns in one week and it begins to take the wind out of our sales... so to say.

Answer
A customs number should be trackable by the posties in whatever country you are shipping to. It worked for me in Canada, the buyer was able to find out his item had been processed at customs and was on it's way to him, just by giving that number.

Answer
Steve, Thanks, but our posties won't track with that, but I'll try again. It's worth a shot. Now Pay pal on the other hand will not accept that as trackable proof.
One customer wrote back and mentioned my filters may be too high since the emails bounced back. I've lowered the filter setting. But I really only answer emails from My Message boards now since I got hacked twice, (dumb me.).
If you ever get hacked check your blocked bidder list as there is a message in there and all the names are removed!! Shocking. Also, keep seperate passwords on everything from email to pay pal to ebay etc. ... That saved me.

Just clarifying...You sent the package, so evidently you did get paid?
If you got paid, I wouldn't worry about whether it was cruel. I would be more worried about if it is fraudulent.

Answer
I have heard so much of this lately - it appears that PayPal is becoming the method of choice for international small-time con artists.
I don't take PayPal at all. All of mine buy international MO's or send US cash. I have never had a problem.

If you got paid, I wouldn't worry about whether it was cruel. I would be more worried about if it is fraudulent. My understanding was that Empires got paid, shipped and the customer is claiming non-receipt therefore Paypal is holding the money. Correct me if I have that wrong, but I wouldn't consider filing NPB fraudulent at all under those circumstances. That can always be rectified later when/if Paypal releases Empires' funds. Until then, Empires has not been paid.

Ok, I see.
