Question
Hi
I received one of those spam emails saying I purchased something 3 weeks ago and if I don't pay I will be turned into the police and ebay etc.
OK....I figure it's a scam. I've received similar emails before.
But usually they are to a dead ebay id. This one is to a current Germany
ebay id who has lots of listings, is a power seller and has a store.
(I didn't click on any links in the email, I went to ebay and did a search of
the id.)
Should I turn this into ebay? Do you think someone is messing with this
sellers id?
Do you think someone is using my id to buy? I looked in my ebay and there's not a weird purchase.
Answer
The last few of those that I received have been active ID's, also.
I doubt they are messing with the seller's ID, but of course there's a chance.
And, no... I seriously doubt anyone is using your ID to buy.
Cheers
Answer
They are using valid id's just in case someone wants to check the seller out. Alot of them are also using valid auction numbers/amounts etc so it seems more legit.

Why didn't you simply go to the eBay US site and do a keyword search of the item number? If your ID was the buyer you'd be able to see that.
The auction would pop on a search of eBay U.S. if the seller indicated he'd ship to the U.S.
If the auction number doesn't pull up an auction, you could also go the eBay Germany and do a keyword search of the item number there. A link to eBay Germany, as well as to all the other foreign eBay sites, is at the bottom of eBay's home page.
Answer
send it to spoof*ebay. they'll either confirm or deny.
I've had several, with real item numbers, but ebay confirmed they were spoofs.
Answer
Have you gone to My Messages in ebay to see if it's legitimate? Also, check your seller account to make sure you have not been hijacked.
Answer
if your "real" name (not your ebay i.d.) doesn't appear at the top of the email, its bogus.
plain and simple
