Question
Once upon a time this was a weekly thread entitled Triumphant Tuesday, later becoming a longer term thread posted to less often, entitled Triumphant Whatever Day You Want it To Be. Now it has become an annual ongoing thread, that only occassionally gets bumped up by an excited heren...... but it should remain a part of the furniture, and the forum.
This is a place to post those auction results that have kicked beyond expectations, or revealed an aspect to the market that you were unaware of - both high flyers and handy little earners are welcome (and encouraged) here. This is not only an opportunity to brag, but it is also an opportunity to identify trends and items that may otherwise be overlooked in the hunt for saleable stock. It has intermittently been a valuable asset to here and its users.
So please, feel welcome to list those auctions that really kicked, that show trends occurring on Ebay or those that just have you bamboozled as to why they attracted so much attention.
Cheers, Kevin

After my first run for the year (ASEA Railway Rolling Stock brochures) sold one out of 19 listings, the year has built up very nicely.
I am in the process of selling a large collection of stereoviews that I bought. There was no top end stock in the collection, but after two weeks of listings I am happy with how they are going. This week's run was exhibition stereoviews, which got an amazing 100% clearance and this top price, last weeks included tissue stereviews which got a reasonable clearance, and some turn of the century ethnographic views, which sold fairly dissappointingly, except for this view by the more common maker, which reflects the heat in the market currently for Korean memorabilia - photographs, postcards and stereoviews have all been selling very strongly over the last few months, with buyers in Korea, England and USA all active.
A run of larger format Middle Eastern photographs sold well, attracting several buyers from Jerusalem, as well as elsewhere.
Also achieving 100% clearance (and all selling to one buyer), were a run of older American locomotive promotional photographs, helped along greatly by a casual mention on a Railway Enthusiast's Message Board which added 72 hits to the auction with some people looking at other auctions (one of the cool things about Viewtracker is that it gives the link to that type of message board when it attracts hits - although oddly here does not get identified).
And my misjudged item for the week was this little blue bottle, which I listed in Australian dollars because I wrongly thought that it would have a stronger local market. Looking around Ebay, older poison bottles from anywhere are very sought after.
May 2006 be a successful selling year for all of us, in spite of anything that may be done to interfere with the marketplace.
Kind Regards, Kevin
Answer
Nice job on the poison bottle! I wish I knew more about glass, if I'd have seen that at a flea market or something I would never have known it was worth that much...

I learned that cleaning out my office is a good thing!
First off, Canon lenses retain their resale value very well! In that auction, and another one, I sold them for more than I purchased them for. And that's for a couple years of usage (and that includes the filters and warranties that were included too)
Another surprise is PDA's. In one case, I sold this one for $20 less than I purchased it for, 1.5 years ago. In another case, it needs a new battery (but it works) and is 4+ years old, and I still recouped a fair amount of what I paid for it (31/125).
Guess the point is, don't be afraid to clean out the closet and recoup some of the $ you put into things. You maybe surprised at the % you can get back. In the case of the one PDA, it turns out that I only paid $1/month for usage (rental?) and the lenses I basically got to use "free" for the time I had them (1-2 years). And just because something's "broken" such as needing a new battery, don't just toss it.

Thanks for resuurecting this idea Kevin! Well since Gabsy is in here showin' off AND pokin' me at the same time, I guess I need to contribute a little......
In the process of sorting thru stuff while packing for the move, I stumbled across some 1960s Gunsmoke promo photos and thanks to this Milburn Stone~DOC and this shot of Amanda Blake~MISS KITTY I managed to sell not only the ones in the auction, but also another 2 of each to the backup bidders thru the Second Chance Offer....almost $100 total.....and still have another 4 or 5 of each one PLUS some fantastic candids of them at the Pensacola Naval Hospital 45 years ago visiting sick kids of servicemen! (i really need to finish sorting thru all those boxes of photos one of these days just to see what ELSE is in them! )
This one isn't big bucks, but it is something that I keep picking up OFF OTHER SELLERS on eBay for $5~$10 and re-selling for anywhere from $29-$45.....1979 Domino's Pizza Chevy Chevette promo.......I've sold at least 10 or 12 of these in the past 2 years, but I really think the reason *I* get the money for them is the story that's included in my auction. Sell the sizzle instead of just the steak!
And then there was my shining star sale from 10¢ day.......framed signed quotes of the first moonwalkers. I am almost ashamed to admit what I had "invested" in that set.....whatever the price of a first class stamp was back in 1971 since I traded a crew signed Apollo 13 photo for the framed Apollo 11 set......and I got the Apollo 13 picture by writing Jim Lovell the commander when I was in high school. I think I was a smarter dealer back THEN than I am now!
Guess I need to find some things to list for next week now don't I if I am gonna try to keep up with Kevin & Gabsy!
