Paypal Instant payment??

Question
I sold a fairly high ticket item and the buyer sent an instant payment that I have to deny or accept. How are these "instant payments" funded?
The buyer has an unconfirmed Paypal address and it is not the same as the one Ebay supplied. Looks like a work addy.
Now, how can I tell how the payment was funded and if it was some method, like from their checking account, could they do a charge back? I am sure they will like the item, it's great and the price was good but I can't really afford to take the chance that the buyer won't try to charge it back and e not have any recourse if they have the unconfirmed addy.
Could someone please explain Paypals payment methods and charge back abilities to me.
I hardly ever take Paypal so am a dunce when it comes to this stuff.
Thanks.

Answer
"The buyer has an unconfirmed Paypal address "
Posible hijacked paypal account or ebay account. Refund it, and ask for other payment, or have them conferm the adress with paypal.
Give us the item number please.

Answer
It doesn't matter how the payment was funded, they can still file item not received and you're not protected.

Answer
I ship to unconfirmed addresses all the time, and have never had a problem. If you are concerned about a chargeback, look at the bidder's feedback to see if there is a solid track record. I personally would hesitate to send a Payment back since it might annoy the bidder and jinx the sale.'
Money in the hand is much more reassuring than making the deal more complicated. Besides, can't you withdraw the funds as soon as received?
While possible, I think concern over Paypal chargebacks is highly exaggerated. I have had thousands of transactions and only one was ever contested. OTOH it was a confirmed address and by providing my Delivery Confirmation number, I prevailed.
Sometimes in an unconfirmed sale, I just insure the shipment against loss and damage to be super safe. I pack exceedingly well, and loss in transit is my only concern. With insurance and DC, I am covered.
YMMV.

No, not a hijacked account.
Mostly I am concerned about not having any seller protections due to the unconfirmed addy but thats more of a joke anyway.
I agree about denying the payment, I really do not want the sale to flop.
Thanks for the information about the payment methods. Can you tell how a buyer paid ?

YMMV. Ditto what Larry said. Even with confirmed addresses, if the value is more than I want to refund, I usually end up insuring.
The only thing I'd add to his advice, is to add signature required if it is a high dollar item. That will give you more leverage with any insurance company. My personal fav is DSI -- they rock!

Answer
"any seller protections due to the unconfirmed addy" NONE.
Just setting you up as far as I am concerned.

Answer
Why do I want an item number?
Hmm can look at the user history and get an idea of bidding habit selling habit and see if the high ticket item is out of caracter for the user ID, and or if all of a suden the id is bidding on a lot of "high ticket" items.
Easer to give advice about doing this.
If the id of the purchaser is legit, then a request to get veirfyed would be worth a try.

Answer
I don't believe you have any way of knowing whether or not your buyer is using a CC or cash balance unless you ask. PayPal won't tell you.
If you advertised PP, you have to take it, regardless of the source.
To have any of what PP calls 'seller protection' you must ship to the confirmed address
Over $250 you must use signature confirmation.
You must use DC or another form of online trackable delivery
Of course, the listing had to be eligible to begin with.
