I used to scorn snipers, but I've been doing more buying on eBay lately and I'm too tired to stay up until the wee small hours for an auction ending! Maybe it's just the categories I shop in, but it seems like many sellers are ending their auctions in the early am.
I used to think snipers were dirty rotten scoundrels who were too cheap to put in a high proxy bid. Now with all the snipers on eBay, you either have to stay awake for the end of the auction or get your own sniping software.
So what does anyone use? How much does it cost? I'd want something online, because I'm still on dial-up.
(And as far as the ethics of sniping: tell you what - as a seller, I'd rather have snipers than no bids at all!)

I do all my bidding with esnipe. one thing I really like is I can see a item today ending in 10 days , go to esnipe and bid and if I change my mind I have untill 5 min before the auction ends to change the bid

Because eBay makes so many changes I would not consider buying software for sniping. It would be outdated all too soon. And constantly updating it, if the software company did such things, would be a royal pain. I have more than enough things to worry about.
So I use a sniping service that I pay a small fee to. It is reliable and has saved me plenty over the past couple of years.
As both a buyer and seller, I believe sniping is a great tool.

For some of us on the West Coast, the only time we have available to list auctions (or bid, for that matter) will show up as wee small hours for those on Eastern Time.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I'm especially interested in the free programs. I didn't want a downloaded software, just an online thing that I could go & set up.
Ms. C, I know watcha mean about the timezones, but it seems that even the east-coasters are listing late at night. I talked to a lady at the fabric store who sells on eBay about it yesterday afternoon... she said she lists to end in the middle of the night to encourage snipers. Hmmmmmmmm......
