Question
Im sure many of you have seen in ebay auctions where alot of sellers will put some goofy slogan in the "item location" field. It personally has not happened to me yet. But I can picture someone doing a "buy it a now" on a stores item from a seller who is in the damaged area where the seller chose to put some goofy phrase as his location instead of the actual state or city.
Some unsuspecting buyer maybe waiting a long time before they realize their item is not coming. Had the seller choose to put his actual location instead of a slogan, the buyer couldve thought about emailing the seller 1st to make sure they were still in business.
In short: In the coming weeks and maybe months, if a seller has some goofy slogan instead of their actual location, try to verify where the seller is from, or the last time they were active on ebay.

This has long been a pet peeve of mine. Not only for the reasons such as you mentioned, but if I'm gonna send a total stranger money the least they can do is tell me what state they are in. Sheesh!

I have always listed my location in my auctions, and indeed wherever it is possible to list it. In this forum, for example, many posters misuse the location line for other purposes, and then go on and on about how high the gas prices are in their area, and we don't have a clue where they are talking about.
Of couirse there is a great deal of paranoia that if you list your location some crazy will end up knocking on your door. But that can happen despite that caution.
Sometimes when I am bidding for something needed urgently, I look at the location, and both shipping details and feedback for guidance.
On Amazon many sellers of similar items actually add their location to their little listing and I often choose what might seem like an out-of-area seller over someone who gives no clue. VA or FL are better chices for me than an unknown who may be CA or HI.
In times of weather problems having the info easily available also reduces emails and irritiation.
You can see I think your thread is a timely reminder.
