Question
From the TAGnotes newsmail
"TAG has been hearing from many folks who are planning a
Boycott of ebaY the first week of February in protest of the fee
increases. Why not go one better and take advantage of this free
listing day (on YAHOO) and the free listing available on sites such as
SellYourItem.Com, BidVille.Com and iOffer.Com and list all the
items you would have otherwise listed on ebaY. Email all your
bidders and let them know about the protest and where you are
currently listing. What do you have to lose?"
******************************************
I don't think it will amount to much.
I don't think it will work.
I don't think it will be noticed.
I don't think it would make any difference even if it was noticed.
I can't justifying hurting my business for a pointless gesture.
If we put up 50,000 less auctions eBay Nation could have another FLD and add 5,000,000.
That said, I have a lot of work to do on my Store and website plus I've meant to get some listings onto YAHOO, Bidville etc.
So I will support the boycott, sort of, by trying to do productive work elsewhere.
If anything similar suits your needs, please consider participating.

Answer
I haven't listed for quite a while, and maybe it's slipped my mind, but what fee increases are going into effect? I didn't see anything on the announcement board about it.

From the eBay announcement board
***eBay.com / eBay Motors Fee Changes and Enhancements***
Date: 01/05/04 Time: 08:31:01 AM PST
(Message re-posted to include Frequently Asked Questions.)
Today, we are announcing that eBay.com and eBay Motors will be making changes to the fee structure effective February 2, 2004. Items that are scheduled to begin on eBay.com or eBay Motors after midnight Pacific Time on February 1, 2004 will be charged based on the new fees.
Some fees will be increasing, others will be decreasing, and the tiers for some fee structures will be changing. In addition to the specific fee changes described below, eBay will be making the following enhancements in response to seller feedback on these important issues:
Non-Paying Bidder Re-list Credit - Currently, an item listed on eBay.com or eBay Motors that is won, but not paid for by the buyer, is not eligible for an insertion fee credit when the seller re-lists the item and it sells. As of February 2, 2004, qualifying NPB items will be eligible for the standard re-list credit. (Please see the Frequently Asked Questions for more details.)
Second Chance Offer if Reserve Not Met -- Currently, a reserve price item that ends without the reserve price being met is not eligible for a Second Chance Offer. Beginning in mid-March, sellers will be able to make a Second Chance Offer to under-bidders on items that do not meet the reserve. In addition, the reserve fee will be refunded if the Second Chance Offer is accepted. (For updates on the launch of this enhancement, please check the Announcement board. Read Second Chance Offer in Help to learn more about the current feature.)

Answer
I don't know how you could have missed it. There was a huge uproar on DNF (Discuss eBay's Newest Features). eBay also sent out an e-mail with the same announcement.
Naturally I don't like fee increases, but let's face it, everyone else is raising prices (like the post office). It seems naive to expect eBay prices will remain static.
I still think eBay's a bargain for the amount of market exposure we get. I really can't find it in myself to complain about this, or even consider a boycott.
Answer
Maybe they only sent emails to ebay motors users? Or maybe I deleted it w/o reading, figuring it was spam. I never go to the DNF board.
