Would you wait till January?

Question
Last year I listed some stuff for the Christmas market, but I really don't sell Christmas stuff.
I sold used items, books, videos, CD's, whatever.
To put it mildly it was a pain.
You wouldn't believe the emails I got. "I bought this item, to give as a present but it looks used".
OMG the reason it looks used is because it is used. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_eek.gif
That is also why you got a $20.00 movie for $2.00. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_rolleyes.gif
The shipping emails were also annoying. Nobody ever wants to pay the extra for airmail, yet they want cross-boarder service at Xmas in less than a week. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_mad.gif
I'm really not sure I want to face that stupidity again. My condolences to you sellers that don't have a choice. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif
I'm thinking that in January I would be selling to the collectors, people like me that are stuck in the house because of the weather.

Answer
Doof,
Most of your issues are issues sellers deal with ALL year round.
If you don't list in December, you have lost one twelfth of your selling oportunity. (if not greater)
Besides that, do you want the Gabsmatic all over your buns??? http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif
NOT ME, I am Mucho FRAID of her http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif. Like I tell the Pack, LIST LIST LIST

Answer
I dunno, seems that lately, we are getting more customers with major attitude problems, and they expect the items to get there practically overnight, at the same time the post office seems slower than they were last year. (I wonder if they are trying to put the squeeze on and do more with fewer people... I will be glad when the pendulum swings back to having companies care about customer service and good products instead of pinching pennies.) But I digress. This time of year, we seem to encounter more obnoxious people than the other 10 1/2 months of the year.

Answer
I'm almost finished for the "season" -- I won't deal with the nutsos.
It's already started. Today a fellow sent me an email after he made a PayPal payment, saying he hoped his item would reach him by Christmas.
I've had more bidders email me over the past couple of days asking if their orders had shipped yet than I had for the past six months!
And for another thing, maybe it's the types of items I sell (mostly old stuff), but I didn't do so hot during December when I first started selling on Ebay. I got better prices earlier in the Christmas selling season. That was part of my reason for making December 1 my last day for listing--less money, more hassles.
Everyone's experiences are different, of course!

Answer
DOOFUS....enjoy your daughter, and as of January 5 I expect you to have 15 listings done....you have plenty of time to prepare for that measly goal....

Oh dear. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif
I've always sold in December, figuring that the idjuts abound year-round and I might as well continue to try and make money. So far, I've been lucky. Anyone who has bought something as a gift, and some have already this season, have not given me trouble.
Yesterday I got an email from an International customer in New Zealand telling me he hadn't gotten his book yet and he was wondering about it. He was quite nice and everything, but it was still annoying considering that he hadn't upgraded to Airmail/GPM and the auction clearly stated that Surface would take up to 3 months. BTW, it only shipped a little over a month ago. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_rolleyes.gif
Then in his response to my response to his first email, he said that in the meantime he'd obtained another copy of it in New Zealand, but he wanted to keep the copy he had ordered from me anyway. Didn't say it, but felt like saying, Damn right you will!
