Ebay as a Resource

Question
I've been snagging pictures off ebay for years now, making myself digital libraries of the items I collect that are serial in nature. I started with my puzzles, and my collection of puzzle pictures has become a vital collection all on its own. That was so enjoyable I started collecting pictures of my dinnerware, and now books. I'm making spreadsheets with links to the digital galleries. It's all very helpful as a way of organizing information, so that when a new auction comes up, I can cross check the seller's pic and description with my own information, and quickly be able to tell if I have that particular item or not. It beats digging through boxes to find my items when I have a record of them on my computer.
Anyone else utilize ebay in this fashion? I would think lots of people do.

Answer
Yes, lots of people do. I have a file of saved auctions for items I collect. Instead of saving just the picture, I save the whole page, so I can have price and description info as well.

Answer
You can save files as meta HTML (MHT) - a feature in Internet Explorer if you have Outlook Express installed - that saves a whole web pages with pictures as one file. Then use a Desktop Search program to make finding it easy.
I usually lift pictures or descriptions for one-off items my friends want me to sell for them.

Answer
tekgems, I just tried to save a page that is a completed items search listing on eBay. It starts to save (as an mht as you suggested) but then I get the message, "The web page could not be saved to the selected location."
What's that all about?
hmmm, you said Outlook Express? I have Outlook, via Office.

Answer
Meta HTML appears as a "save as" option after Outlook Express is installed. One of those quirks with Windows. Anyway, you probably need to clear your "Temporary Internet Folders". This happens if you have too many files in there. You should get the same error when select "View Source". I suggest reducing your Temporary Internet Folders to just 1 MB and that should get rid of that error.

Answer
I have the option to save as mht, and I tried. It starts to save, runs through many different files, acting as if it is saving, then shows me that error.
I cleared my temp files and still no worky.
I like my system of saving pics and pertinent info in a spreadsheet. The mht would have been nice to look at. I was thinking I could adapt it or something. But I guess it won't work on my computer.
Thanks anyway, tekgems.

Answer
O good grief. I started looking at other items by the designers of a coffee mug I gave my sister, and now I have an entire library of those pictures, and the drooling desire to collect yet another set of dishes and kitchenware.
I'm talking about Taylor & Ng orgy, minimals, folk art, etc. items.
This is maddening.

Answer
It seems it is a recent Microsoft security patch that is causing issues if the javascript or stylesheet (css) file is retrieved from a server than the one you are currently on:

Answer
Heee! Well, I doubt I'll be contacting the website admin to tell them to save the style sheet where I can get to it. LOL.
Thank you for your efforts, tekgems.

Answer
Yes, actually! I save photos of items I'd like to get in the future, for reference and easy identification. I also save photos of Han Dynasty antiques for my own virtual harddrive musem.
