Question
They're not exactly auctions but I couldn't find a relevant forum!
I've got some items that would be very difficult to ship that I want to sell!
Has anyone tried listing any items for sale on these sites?
Any success?
Or would I be better off listing them on eBay for local pickup only?

Answer
I listed on Craigslist.org once. Immediately afterwards my Nigerian scam mail increased by about 500%. (plus the items never sold).
I've never ebayed anything for local pickup, so I can't advise you one way or the other...

I've listed a couple of things for sale (pickup type) on Craigs, got zero responses...I have purchased quite a few things FROM Craigs that were pickups and only had one problem (outta maybe 10 or so purchases)....
I like Craigslist!....
I've listed one or two pickup ONLY things on eBay and got zero takers...One was even an old old school teachers desk that I listed for a buck JUST to get it outta here and NOT have to throw it out...NADA, zip, zero, ziltch bids!...
On the flip side I have purchased several rooms of furniture (2 bedrooms and one dining room) via eBay that were pickups, but we do own our own trucks, so we were able to do the pickups....Got GREAT deals on the stuff too!...
I'd try Craigs first, then eBay if that doesn't work....
Answer
Go to yahoogroups.com and do a search for your area(use a big town, or county or such) and look for a group that's a selling group. Sometimes there are more than one for larger areas-I have 5 in my area You could always park it on yahoo for awhile.

I've had pretty good luck selling things for pick-up only. I had a small baking business and sold all the equipment--huge stainless steel sink, oven, work tables, trays, etc. to local Ebayers. When my husband bought a new truck earlier this year, it came with a hardshell tonneau cover that he didn't want--sold that for local pick-up and a guy came from another state. I even sold an asphalt roller machine for a friend. Some I sold through regular auctions and some through store listings.
I still have a really nice piano that didn't sell, though!

You might also want to read this thread, about a buyer who sends fake
checks for purchases on Craiglist...
Approached with proper precautions, they are probably a good venue for
some items. Seems I remember some posters here have had good results.
But they might have been buyers...
Answer
I bought a computer from Craiglist. Went just fine. Never listed there, though.
I have listed a couple things for local pickup and people came from Colorado both times to pick them up. I live in Indiana so that's quite a haul. They were both thrilled, however!
Know an ebayer that has listed several things for pickup or buyer handles all shipping details and he has sold them reportedly without a problem.
Answer
I recently listed some larger antique furniture items for a friend on Craigslist - got four scam emails within 2 days of listing. eMails sounded legitimate at first - I want to buy your item - will pay by cheque (so far so good) I will send my shipper to deliver cheque and pick up item. NOT! You will wait until cheque clears bank before shipper "picks up item." Never heard back from them after emailing them with that message. Colossal waste of time.
As an aside, don't make a mistake and type craiglist.com - unless of course, you like those kinds of sites! <blush>

I tried listing an item on craigslist after reading this thread, and must say I'm so disappointed--I have had a slew of scam emails after listing, and nothing legitimate at all.
Ebay now owns 25% of this site, right? Why aren't they flexing their muscle a bit?
I won't be listing anything else there.
