Question
http://www.onlineauction.com/
I was wondering if this is a good site for getting sales. They require 8.00 per month to sell & 2.00 a month to bid & buy. How many buyers will pay for the 'priviledge' of bidding & buying? Has anyone any input on this site?
Thanks
Answer
No idea-never heard of it until now, but I know I won't pay for the right to spend my money same reason I refuse to join Sam's Club or anything like that.
Answer
Never heard of them and I wouldn't pay either. Paying to buy is crazy and $8.00 a month for a site that isn't well established and no reasonable expectations of getting bids is too expensive. The fact buyers have to pay to bid is a good indication to me they have gone elsewhere.

(I found this thread searching for any info about onlineauctions.com - sorry for the old-post resurrection)
I'm not one for "ebay alternatives", but onlineauctions.com (OLA) has sparked some of my interest. Mostly because OLA has some critical mass going on here - at least on the seller-side.
With 2.2 million listings, OLA is the #2 site to Ebay. That's more than double Bidville, Yahoo, and Overstock. Realize that if you don't count stores, ebay only has about 13 million listings. OLA also has around 10,000+ sellers. Realistically, OLA could have half as many auctions as Ebay in the next 18 months (if ebay declines and ola continues it's growth rate).

I wouldn't touch Bidville (with the buyout crap), Yahoo (did it for many years - waste of time), or Overstock (over-priced) - so OLA is looking at least interesting.
I did a lot of searching around on the site, and while I didn't see a lot of bids or successfully closed auctions, I did see some. (Which is more than I can say for most wannabe sites). They also have a very open attitude regarding outside links to your own webstore.
Not sure where Kate got her info, but OLA doesn't charge anything for buyers. (Buyers can become "verified" for $4/month, but that's entirely optional).
Seller's pay $8 for unlimited listings - no other fees are involved after the sale. I'll save at least $30/month with my reduced ebay store - so $8 to try something new is really nothing. But my time...there's the kicker.
Far as I can tell, there are no "stores". There also doesn't seem to be any bulk uploader. So I'm not even sure at this point if this is at all viable for me. I have around 500 items I'd need to list. If I can't easily list them to begin with - and then I need to redo it every 7 or 10 days - then they need to PAY ME to list there...LOL. I have an email into them about this.
I also tried to read their community forums - but they are these flat threadless streams of consciousness that are pretty much worthless.
Anyone had any experiences with these guys?
(Disclaimer: I have a "free" account with OLA just to look around - I haven't even submitted a CC yet to be able to sell.)
TIA...
Rich

quick search says waist of my time.

This is an old thread-at the TIME it was posted there was a monthly charge to be a member(buyer) if I remember right. If that's changed, that's great.
I want a store for me and auctions, too. But more than anything-I want BUYERS. It's cheap on paper, but if you're paying 8.00 per month and not even making that you are throwing your money away. And 4.00 PER MONTH to be verified? Not on my list of to-do things

Now I wish I never restarted this thread.
That 2+ million listing number is TOTAL GARBAGE.
It's counting "individual" items - NOT - auctions.
So if I am selling 200 sets of ginsu knives in one auction, they count it as 200 items.
I hate feeling suckered.
They actually have less than 150,000 auctions
Lots of discontent on the powersellersunite.com site too.
Owell...I guess I need to buy some more google ads for my webstore and stop messing around with all these stupid-greedy-lying amateurs...
Answer
Open your own site and bust ebay I do wish there was a good place to go.
I will note that Yahoo would be a good place to store items but doesn't seem to be a good place to sell items. I've looked over there numerous times, but haven't bought ANYthing-search sucks, categories suck. Ick

I have bought a book on there. The site reminds me of what ebay looked like when I first joined (i.e. where the bid functiones, etc are). But there's not very many listings on there, so I don't buy. There's the same stuff getting relisted over and over again.
I like yahoo auctions. I've bought more than I sold, but at least listing is free. I tend to only sell during Christmas season on yahoo, so I've been busy taking pictures and getting ready to start listing more stuff on there.

Ah, I was just about to inform you of this but you discovered it for yourself.
There are really, really happy sellers at OnlineAuction. I know that one of the moderators at PSU is doing well there, and that's great. Ofcourse, you go to PSU and see the Pom-poms and sometimes you get caught up in keeping these zealotes in their place and keeping the facts straight, rather than finding out if Onlineauction.com is actually a good business decision.
Disclaimer: The Mod I'm referring to is not one of the zealotes... in case my post came off this way. Definitely not what I intended.
