Hey! Can the seller do this?
I have a bid on a listing, and someone outbid me.
I am not the winning bidder at this point, and item has a some time left to go.
I got an email from ebay saying this seller had pulled my contact info, which pisses me off royaly, seeing as they are only supposed to pull contact info on people that have bid and won their items.
Answer
Is the thing you bid on something that the seller might have more than one of, and maybe they are going to call you with an off-Ebay offer? Not saying it's right, just trying to imagine why they might pull your info.
Answer
Nothing on Ebay irritates me more than someone pulling my contact info. Nothing.

The person that outbid me has a weird FB record. No FB for over a year, only something like 17 total, and very few of those in the last year.
But looking at that bidders "bidding" report, they have bid on several items in the last month. I don't think it's shill bidding because they bid on several sellers listing and did win some.
I'm thinking that this seller may be contemplating canceling the high bidders bid, and that would make me high bidder again.
But why pull my contact info?
It just doesn't smell right to me..
But the seller has good fb..
I emailed him and asked why he requested my info. So far he hasn't answered.
Answer
Ok, he just answered.
He wanted to see where I lived to see if it would be a local pick up or ship.
Due to the combined weight of the items, shipping will be high.
That's why I'm not bidding any higher on the listing.
Answer
eBay policy permits all those involved in an auction to pull contact info for the other party (bidders for seller, seller for bidders). They have listed several reasons for permitting it.
See this page.
Those include:
- Sellers can request contact information for all bidders in an active listing and for the winning bidder after their item sells.
- Bidders can request contact information for a seller during an active listing and in a closed listing that they've won.
- Buyer has a question about an item description and is unable to contact the seller by email.
- Seller wants to verify a bidder by telephone.
- Seller needs to compute shipping charges based on the bidder's zip code.
- Buyer or seller wants to resolve a listing-related dispute.
