Does anyone know anything about CB radios?

Question
I've searched on ebay-and you know, if you go to the cb category-can't find the words bobcat in the whole category. There is only one in the completed listings with bobcat in it and it's not the one I've got.
Current Auctions
My question-are these sooooo vintage and rare that there aren't any of the bobcat 23b to be had? Or are they just such a piece of junk everyone ran over them?
TIA

Answer
We have quite a few that I was thinking of get rid of but they are Cobra's and Uniden.

Answer
CB's have a limited range of collectors, at least from what I have seen.
Though for local usage they sure beat cell phones, on the whole most people have long past the CB 'craze' of the late 70's.
A 23 channel unit would be particularly for collectors rather than users who would want the 40 channel units, and problably with sideband.
The most collectible would be the Golden Eagles. There were some other high end models whose names escape me, and I think Bobcat would be in the upper middle range.
ALways best to make sure they WORK.
One of the most ancient of the CB's is the Johnson Messenger, and the last I checked, its price on ebay was in the mud....

Answer
You can take the radio to a local radio repair shop and ask them to test it, at your expense. The ham radio shops, or other communication radio shops should be able to do this, and it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. What I can't comment on would be whether the radio will bring more than the cost of the inspection. You should ask for an estimate in advance and make that decision at the counter whether it is worth doing.

Mommy,
I was big into CB's in the mid 70's. The top brands were Browning & Tram. These were the Cadillacs of CB's. Powerful, reliable, clear. Radio Shacks & Lafeyettes were good for the money. Seems like after C.W. McCall had his big (and only) hit song with "Convoy", the CB craze took off big time. Midland was a HUGE name for low price (and mediocre quality) CB's. Everyone who made any kind of electronics (am/fm radios, 8-track tape decks, etc.) got into making CB's and came up with a name to put on it. I never heard of Bobcat CB's, but they could have also been a regional manufacturer or a name used buy a small regional store chain. I did a search and could not find that name for a CB. Is there any name or address on the serial number plate? Something like "abc electronics, chicago, ill".

Answer
You're welcome mommygonecrazy. The radio repair shop has to have a CB antenna and some test equipment that checks frequencies and transmission power. They will want to verify the channel frequencies and that the receiver is picking up the signals and that the transmitter works on all channels. Any repair shop should be willing to give a written quote and should be willing to quote a fixed price to simply check out a radio, not repair it of course.
I used to be into CB radio too and was in the Civil Defense attached to the local fire department and was at one time in REACT.
The Brownings were top of the line Cadillacs. The Johnson radios were premium quality just under the Cad. The Bobcat wasn't well known, although it wasn't bad. The lower quality ones as I recall were the Radio Shack ones. Midland units were imports, not bad, just average, like a Ford to me, with very low prices. I worked for Midland for a short time too. I had both Johnsons and Midlands. I knew people will all types. They were affiliated with Western Auto during its high.
