Question
Recently, I made three purchases on eBay...the first in a long, long time. I've since heard from two of the sellers, absolutely nothing from the third. I paid for all three items immediately with PayPal.
From a "Power Seller", I receive an email with this paragraph:
"Also, if you would like feedback we will accommodate
you after feedback has been left for us and by your
request. As with large power sellers on eBay we don't
leave feedback as often as we'd like due to time
constraints, but if you send us an email at this email
address (with your item number) after you've left
feedback for us, we will certainly be happy to post
feedback for you as well. Again, thank you very much
for your order! "
The bolding and underlining is mine. Okay, I was never a "Power Seller" on eBay. But, I never, and would never, put these terms to any of my buyers.
Is this what eBay is teaching their Power Sellers? No wonder I haven't been buying items on eBay. And, will probably never again.
Answer
As a small seller, I can see why a large PS would have a need for this type set up, and it doesn't bother me at all.
Although I would never take the time to request FB.
Answer
I'll bite...I've received 1662 feedbacks this past month. I don't consider the transaction "positive" just because I've received payment. Checks bounce, charges are disputed, packages get lost or delayed, etc. I consider the transaction "positive" when the buyer receives their package, and is happy with their transaction. I'm in business to sell items, not leave feedback. I use an automated program that AUTOMATICALLY returns positive feedback when left for me. I've gotten a couple of complaints and even one negative because of this..Oh well, I don't really care about feedback complaints, it is not a mandatory part of ebay anyway. I'm not in the feedback business. There are nuts out there who buy things on ebay to get feedback. Guess they have "issues" and maybe reading their feedback on how great they are makes them feel better, I don't know. At this point, I don't really care if people leave feedback for me or not, but if they want it left for them, they will have to leave it for me first. (and just in case you're wondering what my feedback is, I have over 21,000 positives, and 3 negatives, including the one for not leaving positive feedback)

ebayvet, you might as well have taken the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't agree with you more on your philosophy of when a transaction is completed and positive. it ain't done till it's done, and it ain't done till the buyer is happy with what he/she received.
I too have received neg and neutrals for not leaving feedback as soon as I receive payment. I've even been sworn at and threatened because I haven't left feedback quickly enough for a buyer. Silly me, I always thought that shipping as soon as I receive payment (I almost always ship within 24 hours, and usually the same day) was way more important than leaving feedback. I guess some Buyers have a different priority system. But I will continue to spend my time making sure shipping is very rapid before I worry about a minor thing like leaving feedback
I think the seller in the OP's post was maybe a bit out of line saying things the way he did, but I agree with his overall position, and obviously that of eBayvet too. I don't leave feedback until I either receive feedback myself or I've gotten an email from the buyer saying that the item was received and everything's okey-dokey. THAT's when the transaction is complete, and no amount of negative feedback or threats are going to change my stance on that.
Answer
I have to agree also.....I have over 34,000 feedback and I do not leave it until it is left for me.....mainly because I have to have it automated as well but also because the transaction is not complete until the item is received and the buyer is happy.
Answer
Like the others who have posted, I leave feedback when the transaction is complete - when the buyer lets me know they have the item and they are satisfied with their purchase. 99% of the time, I know this because I've received positive FB. (I will usually also leave fb if the buyer writes me and lets me know they have the item and love it, even if they haven't left feedback yet.)
But the PS referenced in the OPs post is full of it. There are too many programs out there to leave feedback automatically to require that feedback be left first by the buyer AND that it be requested via email, too.
Beth
newly minted PS - only ~300 (positive) fb in the last month but it was a lot for me!
Edited because I haven't had enough coffee yet.
Answer
we automatically post + feeback when payment is received, i understand waiting for the buyer's feedback first, but for us i think we would receive negatives because our buyers didn't receive a + feeback right away.

Well I'm still of the school that when a buyer pays he's done everything he was supposed to do.
But what I really wanted to contribute, was I read in someones TOS yesterday, we will discuss any and all refunds AFTER you have left POSITIVE feedback.
I thought that was quite amazing, from a now mostly buyers viewpoint, it won't suprise me a bit to see more sellers adopting this viewpoint.
I fully believe that theres as many sellers out there using feedback as blackmail, as there are buyers.
When you consider the seller not only has the threat of negative feedback, but also posseses the buyers money. Its a double whammy, and I seriously don't think it will help future sales.
I would ask the sellers here, if you are so proud of leaving feedback after the buyer does, would you include it in your listing, so I could know before hand?
I bet you won't, because we all know if the buyer knew before hand, he wouldn't touch your listing.
If its something you have to hide, is it really a practise you should be proud of?
Answer
There's pros and cons to both methods, I guess.
I leave FB after I receive payment, usually on the day that I ship. Mainly because I'm closing out my paperwork and dont want to have YET ANOTHER pending file, of transactions waiting around for a buyer to maybe leave feedback so I can go hunt them up again and leave them feedback. 30% of those would sit in the pending file forever!

ahhhh if the practice twerks you for some reason, then I guess you're buying feedback, not the item. I doubt there are very many legitimate, honest sellers who use feedback as blackmail. As I said before, in my opinion feedback shouldn't be left until the transaction is COMPLETE and the buyer is happy with the item.
