Well I was thinking yesterday about all the sellers/buyers that I had grown to know at several auction sites that are now closed. I see some of them here and at some other auction sites but there is a huge amount I don't see anywhere. So I was thinking of posting a where are you now? thread and a thought occurred to me that I am probably not the only one that is wondering about some old auction friends so why not have a forum for people to get back in touch, however briefly, with each other..sorta like a classmates.com for the auction world. Maybe the Lost & Found Auction Friends forum...lol. Anyway...I haven't talked..i.e. pm'd Jim yet about it, just wondering if there would be any interest from the members here in such a forum?

I can understand a thread like this one, but see no need to have separate forum for lost friends.....
I mainly stick to here, ebay, and yahoo.
Have no need for the smaller sites anymore.
Not many buyers seek out the small sites.
Losing golds, and then sellyouritem was very sad to me as a seller.

And didn't Overstock try some kind of friends thing? Backfired, too. Hope this isn't something similar.

That's interesting info about overstock trying something similar.
As for Bidera Auctions, we felt this was something that might prove useful to our users. If no one uses this particular feature, so be it.
We feel our server is robust enough to handle Bidera Friends.
(Friendship sites are notorious for heavy demands on a site)
Frankly, we are trying to take the advantage of the fact that we build
our own auction code, instead of purchasing off the shelf auction
software. This lets Bidera add features, which might be harder for
smaller auction sites to do.
Lastly, we strongly feel that in order for independent auction sites
to survive and thrive, they should offer something different from
eBay. For example we were the first auction site to offer RSS feeds.
Now there are quite a number of sites doing so.
Unlike infamous Wagglepop(which was heavy on promotion but light on
technical knowledge necesary to run an auction site), Bidera has
chosen an opposite approach.
Here at Bidera auctions we build it first and make sure Bidera can
handle the heavy load, and then work on increasing our user base.
