Neutralizing Book Odors?

Question
I know this has been discussed, probably ad nauseum, but I don't get around to the boards so often anymore and I didn't save the threads from the old days where this was discussed. Help? Please?
I was gifted with 25 boxes of books from an estate sale - hardcover, paperback, all genres. Some are in perfect condition. Others have been stored long enough they smell musty. Some just smell like...well. Not musty. heh
I know I've seen suggestions for neutralizing odors - seems to me it was kitty litter and a sealed garbage bag or something like that.
All suggestions welcome. This was a great find for me, and I'd love to be able to move some of these books over the holiday buying season.
Thanks in advance.
~Kris

Answer
Plain kitty litter in a sealed container is best.

Answer
Sealed container = a plastic bin with a lid? I can do that...
How long should it stay in there?

Answer
Depending on how strong the smell, at least a week, the stronger the smell the longer it should be in the box.

Answer
Whatever you do, keep them books away from your other good books....musty can be bad news....
I have one airing out in the garage right now for my son. It's very musty but I had never seen this book before and the son is a mighty white deer hunter...and I plan on gifting him with this book http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif

Answer
we use Feline Pine, It seems to work better at neutralizing odors in books & when the cat is finished it I fish out & flush the lumps & it becomes sawdust mulch for my trees.
