Question
Hi everyone, I want you all to tell me if anyone thing that the new auction sites out there like http://www.bidz.com , http://www.bidstay.com, http://www.ebuysusa.com , Bidville.com and the new ibidmax.com http://www.ibidmax.com can comptete with ebay in the near future. bidstay.com is giving sellers $500 credit and I visited iBidmax forum board and they just announced free listing for life to attract more sellers. But what can all this new sites do to really get the share of the market. Free listing for life, yes it will reduce sellers fee but what other things can any new business do to really get noticed. I know the world is afraid of change, but i think we sellers can help all this new sites while the still small to grow. Yes I know eBay is the king but if this guys should market well, I believe we will see new king in the near future. Please i really want to hear from everyone, what do you all think?
Thanks
Answer
Maybe I'm jaded, but my guess is you're hawking for bidstay.com. http://home.att.net/%7Eoconnor3/spam.gif
Answer
I haven't heard of any of those sites, so chances are good most of the rest of the population hasn't either.
Ebay is king, they would have to seriously shoot themselves in the foot, before anyone would have even a slight chance of catching them.
Answer
Influx of SPAM this week, isn't there.
People must know a good place when they see it!
Congratulations! Your board's been SPAMMED!
Answer
what do you all think
I think spamming is not going to build competion for ebay
Answer
What sort of things would help a site build up so that it could start competing with eBay and other sites such as Amazon? There must be some innovative or even traditional methods that a startup could use. Any ideas?
Answer
From the Bidstay site:
At BidStay, there are no listing fees, and no final value
or commission fees on anything you sell. ** But that's not all. You get a $500
real credit just for signing up that can be applied to special listing
enhancements such as having your auction featured. At BidStay you get free
gallery pictures with your listings and the option to automatically relist your
unsold items for up to 100 times!

Once again, the question comes up: how do they plan to pay their bills if they're free? All these sites are moronic that offer everything for free, then go under 1 year later due to "lack of funds." Duh!! I'd rather see a solid business model than the word "free". At least then I'd know it'd be worth my time to list there. That might stand a chance against eBay. Free won't.
Answer
Boy, has this one been hashed a lot lately.
There are no quick and easy ways to start a competitive site that do not require spending oodles of money.
Sellers are easy as pie to get. They read the boards, therefore hear about all the new programs and sites out there aimed at sellers.
But sellers are nothing without buyers. And reaching buyers is a whole different challenge. Most don't read the boards (unless they are also sellers) so don't hear about all the new fangled sites and software out there.
As mentioned probably a zillion times before on this board, unless some site is willing to spend a few million on advertising so buyers know they are there, then they can forget it.
People can't use your site if they don't know you are there.
Fact of life.
Just ask the people who run Sell Your Item.

I think you're probably the same 'Kelly' that spammed all the boards about a month ago and haven't learned a dang thing.
