Question
I have a wonderful and very rare piece of jewelry that I am selling on consignment for a customer. Here's a link:

I got an email from a lady interested in bidding. She indicated that she would be willing to buy the ring, but that she would only do so if I am willing to use an escrow service in Spain (where she lives) to allow her to inspect the item before making payment. She also asked for a better price and what methods of payment I take.
I emailed her back that I would not use a Spanish escrow company. I also indicated that she is welcome to locate a certified appraisal service in my home state of Michigan and have it evaluated by them prior to bidding, at her own expense. I also indicated that wire transfer would be the only way I would accept payment for something this expensive.
Did I handle this correctly?

I most certainly wouldn't use any escrow service I didn't know to be legit or one some eBay buyer suggested.
eBay does sponser one.
If she did find one in your state, would you be OK determining it's reliablility and sending the ring off to it?
Is there a reason you wouldn't use eBay's?

I have never used escrow services before...I guess I would be willing to use ebay's....it just never occurred to me to do so. I sell plenty of high ticket items on ebay, including several vehicles over the past year...escrow has never come up.....I build an accurate and fair description of every item I sell...and my feedback reflects that nicely...
