eBay cancelled my auctions :(

Question
Live & learn. I guess certain Hitler & Nazi items are a no-no. They didn;t cancel them all, just a couple of them.
I realize that those were dark times, but like it or not, it's history that can't be changed & people collect historical items of every nature.
eBay says "In accordance with our Offensive Materials policy, eBay does not permit Nazi items to be sold on our site. This means that items that bear any markings of the Nazi party are prohibited on eBay. This applies even if the offending symbols have been cropped, edited or otherwise covered or altered in the image or description of the item. Prohibited items also include those that are advertised with Nazi terms, including but not limited to: Aryan nation, Hitler, Hitler Youth, HJ, NSDAP, NSKK, Nazi, Neo-Nazi, RZM, SS, or Third Reich. Sellers may not use techniques to circumvent our policy, such as substituting XX or other double letters to signify SS items."
Here is what my search turned up:
Nazi-2510 items
Hitler-2008 items
I guess mine must've missed their criteria. Funny thing is I have received a boatload of emails asking for an offline sale of these items since they were cancelled. Not sure what I will do with these items yet.
Things that make ya go hmmmmmmmmmmm ?

Answer
Just more of the insanity of eBay!
Let's just DENY the whole existence of WW2 while we are at it!
I saw those auctions of yours last night and wondered if you might have a problem......with those type of things, you just "get caught" sometimes.
A couple of years ago, I ran a 1938 VW factory groundbreaking uniform pin ago that had the Swastiki on it.....really promoted the hell out of the fact that it WAS history and prior to the Nazi regime, but I still sweat all 7 days of the auction since I had "swastiki" in the title.
And since I had only paid $7 for it at the Budapest Flea Market....was real thrilled at the $78 priice it brought!

Answer
Any thoughts on who might have reported your auctions to ebay?
as if I don't have a clue
Sorry this happened to you, skyline. I'd sell that stuff off-ebay, if it were me, but I'd charge double at least.

Answer
That's one of the reasons I quit selling on eBay. I have seen many selling Nazi items on eBay though--they just black-out the swastika in the photos and make to reference to Nazi in the description. The collectors know what's what. However the other thing you need to watch for is that it's illegal to sell/ship those items to certain European countries. If customs happens to open the package, they will confiscate it.
So sorry yours got caught.

Whilst I don't believe in the rewriting of history, and feel that historic items are exactly that, this particular case was wider than Ebay. *IF* memory serves me correctly (and if not I am not TOO far off the general mark), a few years ago the French government put an ultimatum to Ebay that they either stop selling Nazi memorabilia or block the transmitting of Ebay into France entirely, or face legal consequences. This threatened more than France, because, as Deb just pointed out Nazi memorabilia is banned in several European countries. In this case, Ebay probably chose the most viable option.
I think that the ban has been in place for four years or more. Like most of Ebay's rules though, it is only enforced by closing down what is reported (and in this case in spite of PG's implying that she has an idea of whodunnit, it could have been anyone in one of those European countries, or absolutely anywhere else - or it may be one of the people who have contacted you to buy the items privately), so unless Ebay do a blitz on the subject themselves, there will always be other items left standing. In the past when Ebay has taken on the matter themselves they have banned a couple of the most important militaria dealers in the world from the Ebay site. I believe that there was another Militaria auction site set up for this reason, but have no idea whether it still exists or if it is now a successful outlet. DON'T relist them, because it will get you NARU'd from Ebay, just chalk it up to damn annoying experience.
Kind Regards, Kevin

Answer
Ken - Good information and great name dropping.
So, you're beginning to get your memory back about that trip and actually recalling specific events?

Answer
at Ray!
Yep.....actually remember MOST of that trip.....although the negotiations in the Copenhagen antique shop and just about ALL of the Netherlands still escapes me for some reason.
