Question
didn't there used to be a rule "NO selling promo items at all"....if it was a special issue for some reason and marked not for resale, one could NOT list it on ebay??
I am asking because I was over there tripping around in the PI seciton and came across this...the first line is interesting....my question is since when....I am sure I had a promotional record cancelled a few years ago.
eBay policy does not specifically prohibit the listing of promotional items, but you should be aware that many rights owners take the position that the listing of such items is a copyright infringement. Listing such items could therefore result in the ending of your listing if a member of our Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) Program reports the items as infringing their rights.
We are providing this information to assist you in protecting yourself from offering potentially infringing items and trading safely on eBay. If you have questions regarding listing of promotional items, contact the relevant company to see if your items can be sold or bought without risk of infringement. You might also want to contact the Recording Industry Association of America or the Motion Picture Association of America for more information.
Answer
I've had promo records shut down, but others make it through just fine. I don't think ebay seeks to close them but they feel obligated to if someone complains.
Try to avoid putting promo in the title. I was advised once to use WLP in the title if it's a while label promo. That seems to work ok. Showing a closeup picture of the label is good too.
Answer
If you get shut down on eBay, you might try a flat price listing at Amazon. It's probably not allowed there, but the net cops there are usually buzzing around the heinies of the big profitable sellers.

I am pretty sure that rule use dto say You could NOT sell anything marked promotional, I am just curious if they backed off this rule, it means there may be a chance a few other ridiculous rules might eventually get reworded.

I run Promos all the time and haven't had one jerked for over 2 years...I very seldom mention it in the title..They have software that searches for 'not for sale' in the title or description..that's what always nabbed me..since I quit using those words I've never had a problem.
Answer
yeah, we just use the "white label" if it applies and the close up of the words on the label, but geez, it makes it hard to search inventory if you are looking for these types of items.
Answer
Actually ,I very seldom mention it.On most records being a promo makes little if any difference on the final selling price on most artists.
If it's a Beatles ,Dylan or Elvis ,for instance, then a promo is always worth more..I just ran a Beatles promo about a month ago and put "DJ copy" in the title and never had any problem.
